This brings back memories, and I read it only about 2 years ago. I loved this book. And this is how I got it.
In English class, we had to read a book and make an book report of it. But I hated reading, and English reading, how do you do that? I was completely blank. And luckely I just had made an new friend, whom loved reading, actually did nothing else. So she asked me what I liked, yeah, if I never read ,and the reason is, than I don't know what I like to read. So she gave me this book. And I started to read, and read and read. I was so amazed by what happend, I read an English book and I liked it. Ever since that book, I just kept reading books, first the next books Of The Vampire Diaries, until book 5. After that I didn't liked it anymore. And now I just read only English books. Amy English is improving by the inch.
One last thing, you had to see my face when I discovered there was an serie on tv!!! It was funny!!!(and stupid at the same time)

the show is definitely better but this was just fine. i honestly did not care what happened to the characters and elena is so crazy.
I read this as a teen when the show had just started, not knowing it would be very different - perhaps that's why I really didn't like it; that and probably the fact that, as an Italian, I couldn't take all the Florentine vampire stuff seriously. I remember I liked Meredith but once I finished this one I really couldn't be bothered to go on with the series
For once I think the the screen interpretation trumps the book. My sister got me this book for Christmas because I love the TV series and I must say they are nothing alike! It was interesting discovering the differences and I welcomed them, but the writing and tone of the book was a little too immature for me. I found Elena annoying in the book and there just seemed to be a lack of depth in the character. However, I intend to read the next book of this series eventually because it's on my bookshelf.
Cannot stress enough how much these differ from the TV show. You think the TV show is convoluted and has all these plots and crazy monsters? It is mild compared to the books.
I love that reading this series feels so comfortable and familiar. It's one of my most enjoyable vampire fantasy reads of the year!
I love the TV-show and decided to read the books. I did some research on the books before I started and everyone said that they were so good.
I started reading and... I didn't understand a bit! Everything is so complicated and stupid! I guess this is because I have seen the show and the books are very different. I don't recommend reading them because they make you hate Elena even more.
