3.75. Really beautifully written and a great cast of characters. It’s missing something for me to be perfect but I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe a more fleshed out romance?

i wish i picked this book up sooner because it’s such a pretty story (that ultimately kinda made me shed a tear or two at the end i won’t lie.) i loved all the characters and the different povs, just a really nice, solid story.

i rlly enjoyed this i havent read any fantasy in for sure over 5 years and. the way u just fully get transported in the environment and idek how to describe it. as someone who played the harp for 7 years when i was a child i felt a sad kind of nostalgia whenever jack described his instrument and the way it makes him feel and i felt so drawn to the magic of the harp strings when i first tried plucking them as like a 10 year old and i just wish i could feel like that towards music again dang anyways i rlly liked the descriptions of the spirits and nature as well as the opposing violence (its actually quite a bit more violent than i thought it would be) it was such a stark contrast especially jumping from sidra's nature and spirit centered POV to torin's bloodthirsty thoughts
cant wait to read the sequal when it comes outttt

Immediate reaction after finishing:
*sobbing* Immediately had to start the sexond and had my heart in my throat for most of the second waiting for things to resolve.
Review from IG post:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jack Tamerlaine, a bard living on the mainland, is summoned back to his magical home, the Isle of Cadence, when young girls begin disappearing. Jack is joined by Adaira, his childhood rival and the future leader of their clan, as they attempt to discover why the girls are vanishing and how the spirits of Cadence, who find amusement in human life, are involved.
This story was brilliantly atmospheric. It gave me all the Scottish Folklore vibes with setting, character garb, and the interaction with the elemental spirits of the Isle. The magical system was interesting and clear even with the clan-line division between the East and West. The focal characters were well developed and relatable. I loved the multiple povs to get a fuller picture of what was happening.
The relationships between the characters were believable and had me cheering for them all. The ending ripped my heart out, and I had to immediately start the 2nd.

3.5 Stars
Rebecca Ross has a beautiful writing style. Her words flow so nicely into my head while I’m reading. If you liked Divine Rivals, you’d also enjoy this. The vibes were mystical and enchanting. Information about the folk was a little bit confusing to me but I’m assuming that will be touched upon more in the second book. I adored Sidra the most, her character made me love the story. The reason it wasn’t a five star read was because the pacing was very slow. That would’ve been fine if it had been more character focused but it wasn’t really. I feel that the lack of plot and character development created an imbalance within the story, causing it to get boring at times. That being said, if you’re all about the vibes of this book then you’ll probably love it despite the aforementioned issues.

I loved this. I love all the characters and I LIVE for Sidra. I was so angry the last 10 pages, not knowing there was a sequel, but thinking there MUST BE ONE. I am Jack and I am Sidra but I am also Adi.
