I don't know why I ever pick up chick lit - it's just not my thing. All the characters always really annoy me and I totally resent all the happy endings... ;)

Entertaining read, enjoyed getting a Sydney Muslim perspective in chick lit context.

This was really boring for the first half and got better towards the end. The writing is generic and honestly not very good, but I appreciated some of discourse on feminism, sexual harassment, abuse and more. Essentially I appreciated the messages but the delivery was lacking

I would say is bad... I just didn't find interest in it.
The story is about 4 strong, educated, independent woman, with different cultural background (that I like about the story).
The story is minimized but their idea of getting married and their struggles finding "The One"

Really well-written contemporary novel which tackles both the comedic and more serious issues in these friends' lives. It was a refreshing change to have it set in Australia and to have a Muslim protagonist looking for love gave a great insight into the customs of the religion.

why, oh why i do this to myself!! am maybe going to finish it though with a lot of skipping, and maybe it is cute and fun, though i can't really see it with all these cartoon characters.
i think for a while i am not going to read any chicklit, either i am getting old or i should choose a book that friends have reviewed!!!
and ooh it's so good that i've written this review cause made me think about the book (and life and cosmos and ....!) and i am not going to finish this! hurrah!

Very easy read. Sticks quite closely to chick lit tropes - family and work issues, tick; looking for Mr Right, tick; group of feisty girlfriends who are all going through same issues, and regularly get together to talk about, tick. Our main protagonist ends up with an happy ending. The only difference that makes it stand out is the different attitudes to dating and marriage due to the characters' religions and beliefs. Recommended for a summer beach read.

While I enjoyed the friendships, relationships and characters of this novel, I felt like a true deep emotional experience was missing. I was also very irritated at the end when Esma's first kiss happens by surprise without her permission, especially as she has been so careful to maintain her boundaries up to this point. It felt like making that move romantic undermined the rest of the story and it left me unsatisfied with the final resolution. But Abdel-Fattah has a breezy style and I enjoyed the friendships, so wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to people who enjoy a chick-lit style.

This novel has the best first line I’ve read in ages that I’m not going to share because you have to read it for yourself. It is a fun read with depth of characterisation and conflict. Highly recommend you check it out if you’re a fan of great fiction, strong female characters, and enjoy a twist of romance.
