I was pretty disappointed. I had expected more from this series because of how good the giver is! It seems to me like Lowry got distracted? The rest of the series just doesn’t fit into the world of the giver very well. This book could have picked up loose ends but instead it seemed even more distracted and introduced more characters that I never get to care about or get a resolution for. And man the final fight scene is lame.
I really enjoy Lois Lowrey and The Giver series but this book fell flat. I loved up until book three which became tedious
Great follow up to The Giver. This story starts out at the same time as the first book but ends up years after. I actually skipped the other two books because I wanted to find out what happened to Jonas and Gabe and found myself really liking Claire. Other reviewers have mentioned being left with questions about how all these places relate geographically and how they can all be so different and I admit I wonder that too. Aside from that, I feel it ended well and wrapped up things from all preceding books.

Structurally this is such a weird book. But I’m glad I read it, and I appreciate all of the work it does to weave together the elements of the other three books in the quartet, while still offering something that feels new.

I'm honestly rating this one on it being the conclusion of a series because....it sucked.
It redeems itself by being a good story (until the 3rd part) - Claire provided an interesting perspective on the Giver community and her life exploring other parts of the world that weren't sucky were cool. It was an easy and quick read despite being way longer than other Giver books.
But, the 3rd part was meh - the Trade dude was a weird thing, questions were left majorly unanswered (how do people get powers exactly) and overall, it was just a way different tone than the rest of the book.
If people live their lives believing that "The Giver" is the only book....I think it would be fine.

I'm going out on a limb and saying this was good but not fantastic. I adored the first three books but the pacing of this one didn't feel as tight. It also felt like the target audience had shifted?
A satisfying conclusion to a very well done series.
