It took me awhile to really get into this book. I enjoyed reading about Claire’s forest community from a different point of view, but once she got to the first village, I thought the story kind of stalled.
But once Claire started the climb, the story picked up again and I was sucked back in again. I loved reading more about Gabe and his search for his past, and I enjoyed seeing what became of Jonas.
For as much as they talked about the Trademaster being pure evil, I didn’t really feel it. Sure, I didn’t want Claire to make the trade with him, but I didn’t feel as afraid of him as I think I should have. And the ultimate confrontation wrapped up fairly quickly, which seemed a little to easy for how evil he was supposed to be.
In all, though, I enjoyed reading this series and seeing more of the world Lowry created.

3.5 stars. I wish the ending would have wrapped it up a little bit better!

2.5 stars really, and only because I liked the first section.
The first section of the book was really good, but then it started getting stupid.
The thing about who could see colors and why conflicts with the first book and annoyed me the whole time I read it.
The community by the sea didn't make a lot of sense, but the characters were interesting.
The final setting wasn't developed enough and ended too abruptly.
The author seemed to be trying too hard to pull things together from all the books and made it so this book barely made sense.

A pretty satisfying conclusion to The Giver series. Ties up any loose ends in Lowry's usual way of drawing you in.
The book spends all its time leading up to the end for the end to be only a few pages and very quick which I don't like
Fantastic way to end the quartet. I felt invested in all the characters. I still had questions at the end of the series, which was actually refreshing because they weren't questions I felt needed to be answered in the story. This series is definitely now one of my favourites and I will re-read them in the future.
