The book was quite good, very detailed in terms of what they eventually found out. I was sort of expecting more from the ending though, there was quite a lot of build up to a bit of a mediocre end portion of the book, even with the "twist" at the end - which was pretty obvious - still lacked a bit of excitement that was expected.
Definitely worth reading, but wouldn't read again.

I got to page 120ish and had to give up. The murder mentioned in the description hadn’t even happened yet and the author spent ever other 100 words bragging about something at Princeton that didn’t ever pertain to the story…
If you can struggle through it and find out the actual twist at some point, you might find a good book.

I loved the plot and ideas behind the mystery, but the writing was a bit immature. Written by two Princeton grads - writing about two Princeton students - it seemed like their main goal was to slip in as many obscure Princeton facts and inane frosh memories as they could. I think it would've been better if they'd waited 10 years to write it, and maybe also if each had written their own book. Collaborations rarely seem like a recipe for success.

The idea of the plot is very interesting but ultimately not written very well. Also did not love the ending

I really enjoyed this, as it was rather more intellectual than Da Vinci Code, but I felt there should have been more "treasure-hunting" and less sitting around.

The back cover makes this sound like a book I would like. College students solve puzzles in a historical text to find a priceless treasure. Maybe they could take some of that info and make it into a script for the next National Treasure.

The other 50% of the book is trash. We're from Princeton, we're so much smarter and worldy and complicated than the rest of the world, blah blah. Proctors and campus police are scary. The girlfriend subplot is annoying and goes nowhere. None of the characters are likeable. They don't deserve the treasures of Florence.

Now after writing my review I think I'll have to change it from 2 stars to 1 star. This one's going to Goodwill

I don't even know how to rate this. The book would have been better if it weren't for the flashback chapters. They're slow, boring, and some of them don't seem relevant at all. The mystery itself is good, the twists and turns in the last few chapters were the only time the story really grabbed my attention, though the ending leaves something to be desired.
