Beautiful. Heart-stoping. Heart-wrenching. Magical in it’s weaving. One of the few books I realized I couldn’t read in public; I smiled, laughed, and at times found silent tears trekking down my face.

Read it for a friend. Nothing wrong with it, just not my type of book.

The Thorn Birds is one of those rare books that you’ll want to pick up again as soon as you put it down! I know already that the story of the Cleary family will stay with me for years to come.

This book was so smart and I loved the parallels between the generations and the heartbreaking romance! Highly recommend

A beautiful family saga. As a little girl raised amidst her numerous male siblings, life is not easy for Meggie. She does however forge a very special friendship, which blossoms into a forbidden love. One of the best books I have ever read!

I read this book for my book club. I had heard of it before and was excited to read it, although I had literally no idea what it was about at all.

It ended up being a bittersweet, at times heartbreaking, saga of a large family. The focus was on Meggie from the beginning, and my biggest complaint with the novel is probably that her involvement--so important for about 80%--suddenly dies off. Not that Justine wasn't interesting, I suppose, but the distance from Meggie made everything much harder to care about. She was the heart of the book, in both the moments where I wanted to smack her and those where I wanted to cheer her on.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this book overall!

Gostei bastante do livro.

This book had me with the beautiful writing and descriptions of life in historical Australia. It lost me with the soapy narrative (even by family saga standards), the romanticized grooming of a child by a trusted priest, and the way that event was used as a weird segue into the intended “message” of the story.
