Former Atlanta police officer Callaghan Garrity runs The House Mouse, a professional maid service, and also dabbles in private investigation. A new client has an emergency need for a thorough cleaning; Elliot Littlefield owns Eagle’s Keep, one of Atlanta’s most elegant old mansions and his housekeeper has quit the day before a major party. The team arrives to complete disarray, and discovers a body in an upstairs bedroom. But this isn’t the first time a young woman has met her death at Eagle’s Keep…

This is a fast-paced, well-plotted cozy mystery. I like Callaghan – she’s intelligent, resourceful, strong, and professional. Some of her crew members are a little too eccentric to be believable, but it’s all in good fun. I did figure out the murderer the minute that character was introduced, but that was okay because I still liked watching how Trochek developed the plot.

To many references to “patriots,” the “stars and bars,” and “southern pride”. Made me sick.

Entertaining and Southern as the Callahan mother-daughter team – returns full of mischief and humor as her cleaning crew (turned detective) is on the trail of a stolen Civil War diary. With collectors, radicals, teens, southern belles, shabby developers, and crimes to solve. Did not enjoy this one as much as the others in the series as a light mystery and listened to audio --Huber, the narrator is always good for a laugh.

another funny novel about Callahan, part time investigator, part time cleaning lady. these are fun to listen to but i wouldn't necessarily take the time to READ them. the banter between Callahan and her mother, edna, is hilarious at times and i like Callahan's character as a whole. parts do feel dated since it's set and written in the 90s but that's part of the charm, i suppose.

These are cute little mysteries and quick reads. They are doubly amusing because they were written in the 90's so it's land lines and pay phones. Also, a side story line is the main character dealing with breast cancer and she gets into a clinical trial for tamoxifen which is one of the big drugs now a days so working in cancer diagnostics I'm finding it fascinating that it is making it's appearance in a novel written in the 90s.

Don't go into this book thinking it's a gentle cozy because it was written by Mary Kay Andrews. Yes, Callahan owns a cleaning service. But she also was a cop then a private investigator. She would like nothing better than to run the cleaning service and clean houses, but she can't help but get involved in investigating.
There is some salty language, saltier than cozies tend to be. Not that I am delicate by any stretch of the imagination, but I wanted to advise.
This was a really good story of more than the mystery of the suspicious death of a young woman in the house that Callahan's crew has been hired to clean. There's also a suspicious house fire and negligence, and someone is after Callahan.
Relationships figure strongly here and I like the characters. I like Mary Kay Andrews books in all the guises.
I can recommend this book, series and author.
