I struggled with the rating on this one; I'd probably really give it 3.5 stars but can't quite get to 4. It's very fast-paced, and there's no mistaking that it's a Coben book (which isn't a bad thing at all). I was thoroughly engrossed during the first 3/4 of the book, but towards the end it felt a little too complicated. Still, I'd recommend it.
I'm not big on reading thrillers, but this one had a compelling synopsis. A man goes to the funeral of his ex-girlfriend's husband only to find out the grieving widow isn't his old girlfriend and no one seems to know where she is. What made this interesting is that this is no James Bond or tough cop, this is just an average Joe who feels compelled to investigate on his own. It read a little slow at times and I kind of struggled when he had to explain what Facebook was (perhaps for future generations who won't know?), but it was overall intense, exciting and fun in general. And, after reading other readers' comments, I think that it's likely that having listened to the audiobook helped boost my rating.
Not my favorite Coben. A little too convoluted and far fetched. However, I will keep reading his books since I like his style.
My first Harlan Coben in a long time. And it was not quite what I remembered from his writing. Still, fascinating and a great puzzle.
Okay, so when an author is very popular and has a million books and one's own family members love him, etc., I will give this person a try. I didn't much like the first HC I read, and this one I liked less. Started out fine, caught my interest, but pretty soon my eyeballs began to roll and there were too many dumb "action" scenes, and the plot was not credible and the characters were annoying and I knew exactly how it was going to end no matter WHAT happened in between and I was right, and I guess I'm just not the audience for this sort of book!
I think a more accurate rating of this book would be 3.5 stars. It was a good thriller, and the main reason why I rated it so highly was because for the first 3/4 or so, it kept me on the edge of my seat. I tore through it pretty quickly because I wanted to know what would happen next.
It isn't one of Coben's better written books, unfortunately. Jake's internal dialogue was pretty corny, and his career/the depiction of the college seemed pretty unfeasible. I did figure out the mystery a while before it was actually revealed, and that disappointed me a bit. The premise is pretty interesting, and part of me wishes the author did more with it without relying on so many stereotypes and tired plot points. Still, it was enjoyable in a mindless sort of way! It's a good choice if you're looking for a fun suspense novel.

I enjoyed this book! I definitely didn't predict where it was headed, so that was a nice twist.
I listened to and read this book while I was packing my house for a move. It was entertaining, suspenseful, and fun.
I started this book with high hopes. I like missing person mysteries. But my hopes were dashed. Not quickly mind you, as this book drags on and on and on...well, you get the picture. I'm going to have a hard time giving anything by Harlan Coben a chance after this. I seriously wanted to turn to the end of the book just to find out what happened and end the agony of having to read this any longer. And I'm the kind of person who won't open any presents on Christmas Eve. Let's just say this book almost put me in a coma for six years.
