I always forget how much I enjoy Harlan Coben’s books until I read one. Just terrific! Totally absorbing! Fun fact: one of the characters lives in my hometown of Ramsey, New Jersey! That tickled me!
mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

The jacket-cover description really grabbed me, but I was kind of disappointed with the direction the story went. It seemed like it was going to be something really different, but ended up a typical predictable mystery. Still, a quick fairly enjoyable read.

It IS a somewhat standard thriller, so not my favorite, but it is so gripping and I finished it so quickly, I have to rate it a bit higher than I normally would.

Coben simply is good in that regard.

Hard time believing they date 3 months and he's unhappy for the next 6 years basically.

Rereading because it's been so long since I last read Harlan Coben. Even so, I didn't remember the plot of the story so this felt like a new book.

The protagonist here is very typical of his novels: in his 30s, Tall, good-looking, cool in the eyes of the youth, an academic but capable of throwing punches at bad guys, a little unlucky with love, and a total smartass.

In fact, everyone is a smartass. The dialogues between the characters often feel a little too dramatic or corny. There's so many instances where one character would say, "[Other person's name]?", and the other person replies, "Yes?"

Maybe I'm the only one who cringes at that, I don't know.

Although a little unrealistic, the story is quite suspenseful and fast-paced. There's always a little twist here and there. Harlan Coben's novels are very compelling indeed. Perhaps that was why I put him on a high pedestal (he was one of my favourite authors).

Really excited about his upcoming book!

This is the first Coben I’ve read. It was a bit slow to start, but after the first couple chapters this book was pretty much a giant WTF moment. I don’t know if I actually liked it that much or if I was just compelled to know what was happening, but I had fun reading it.

This was a good quick mystery to read!

Great book. Kept me guessing until the end. Loved Coben's writing style too. Very witty. Definitely recommended.
