It was an average read. Worth a read if you have nothing good to hand but not something I would recommend as a must read.
Flew through this book because I wanted to see how it ended, so it did a great job of getting me hooked. The explanation for it all was not as satisfying a twist as I would have liked but I like the way Harlan Coben reveals the twist near the end, and then fifty more twists in the last few chapters.
My only complaint would be that I found some of the writing to be very corny, particularly near the beginning. I guess Coben was trying to write more conversationally as the lead character is just a regular guy, but it was almost painful to read because there were so many commas and dashes that broke up the sentences unnecessarily. For example:
In the beginning and, well, throughout the book, Harlan Coben's writing was - to say the least - chunky and interrupted by - and I'm not joking - commas, interjections, and dashes that were, at least in my opinion, not, as some would consider, necessary, which made it cumbersome to read - not that I didn't enjoy the book.
Other than that, this is a pretty typical Harlan Coben book. Nothing too special, but if you're a fan of the genre, it would be an enjoyable story.

A friend of mine told me she was a fan of Harlan Coben and when I was at the library today, I decided to pick one out without having done any research into his bibliography. This one sounded interesting: a man's true love suddenly dumps him and marries another man, making him promise not to look her up; six years later he sees that the husband is dead, and decides to go console his widow, only to find that she is not his love, and moreover no one seems to remember her.
I found it to be an easy, quick read with suspense ratcheted up with every chapter. But there were some things that didn't really work for me: the protagonist's obsession with this woman, which is borderline insane (it doesn't help that he repeatedly says, "I know this sounds insane, but..."; the tone was a bit too chatty for someone in danger of his life, etc., etc. So 3 stars overall, which more or less accords with the Amazon reviews, which say that this isn't the best of Harlan Coben's books.

Six years ago, Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry Todd. On her wedding day, he promises to leave them alone but that changes when he comes across Todd's obituary. When he glimpses Todd's wife and sees that she isn't Natalie, he's thrown into a search for the truth as to where Natalie has been for the last six years.
What I loved...
π This isn't one of Harlan Coben's better books, but still a decent read. I particularly enjoyed the multiple angles and characters who were all involved at different levels and the unfolding of the story to its ultimate conclusion.
What I didn't love...
π Jake's character and motivation wasn't completely believable. He claimed to still be in love after 6 years, yet never once attempted to Google Natalie or even look her up on Facebook π€ If he was so straight-laced in keeping to the promise, why was he so reckless in searching for her, even when multiple people were warning him?
π The story's ending was good, but the epilogue is not π€
π The general connection of many of these characters was a little too coincidental to be believed.
π Random fact - The back cover of the book says "Jake Sanders" but throughout, he is called Jake Fisher unless I missed something

A little different from what I used to reading from him but I still enjoyed the book. It didnt end the way I was anticipating so that was a nice surprise. π
Literally a page-turner. It was a pretty easy read and I couldn't put it down. I loved trying to put together the pieces of the puzzle along with Professor Fisher.
3 βοΈ
