This was weirdly compulsively readable even though I've never been that interested in the subject. I totally see why it is considered a classic of the genre. Bugliosi's intense disdain for most of the LAPD is kind of hilarious, and particularly interesting to read right after watching the OJ documentary.
I found this book to be extremely informative about the Manson family and the Tate-LaBianca murders. The book covers the investigation into the murders well and gives great insight into the minds of the killers. I would definitely recommend this book to true-crime lovers and people specifically interested in Charles Manson and his crimes.
Wow! This book by Vincent Bugliosi was so dark, twisty, and detailed. Wouldn’t you expect that from a book about a murderer? One of the reasons this book took me so long to read is because it was very detailed! I can only imagine the detailed accounts from the court proceedings. If you are a fan of true crime, this book is for you!
So interesting to read this perspective and get more insight into the trials and murders.
If you love true crime you'll love this book. Having been there for every step of the case, Vincent Bugliosi offers a unique perspective and amazing insight into what actually happened during the Manson murders and trial. I was worried about the book being a little too analytical as a result of Bugliosi being an attorney and not an author, but he did an amazing job of finding the perfect balance. He allowed the reader to feel like they were reading the actual files and notes associated with the case, while also making the language accessible and enjoyable to read. While this book might not exactly be fast-paced (because what trial is), I found myself on the edge of my seat the entire time as the case twisted and turned towards the final verdict.

A nonfiction book detailing the Charles Manson family, the murders committed in his name, and the trials afterward. It was informative and held a lot of respect for the victims, but you could tell it was written by a lawyer.
Everything was written as if it was quoting solely crime reports. When we got to the court room, the author and his experience definitely brought the experience to life and added tension within the story. It just made the book even more lop-sided and overly long.
I recommend it if you are curious about the murders. They are horrifying enough without any added drama. I just felt the book read a bit too long for the writing that was in it.

Damn this is a slog of a book to get through. I just want to say that it's extremely interesting, and I learned an incredible amount of the case and the people behind everything. However, there is no reason why this book needed to be 670 pages long. The trial section could have been cut in half, the epilogue where he talks about other cases that may or may not be the Manson Family....not needed! The initial shoddy police investigation could have been trimmed down. This exact same story could have been told in about 400 pages, and still be just as informative. I enjoyed it, but after I finally finished it I felt like I deserved a medal for completing this marathon.
