Overall, this book was a struggle to get through. The storyline is not the most compelling and the social commentary is very heavy handed at times.

I love Dickens a lot and this was great read! I was hesitant at first since this seemed to be the amalgamation of all Dickensian stereotypes but it ends up being really wonderful. I thought it wrapped up a bit too strangely with some points which made the ending a little bit of a rough landing but with the final chapter Dickens always somehow manages to make me unbelievably sad that I’m leaving these characters behind. love my scrappy little orphans :’’)))

I… really did not get on with this. While at times whimsical and Dickens really knows how to describe a scene, the ceaseless misogyny and antisemitism throughout made me completely detached.
I want to give Dickens another go, but right now this left a bad taste in my mouth.
