Dexter Is Dead

3.4 AVERAGE

Finally finished the Dexter series....it was a long slog. My favourite of the series is still the very first one and this one is ok, better than the last few anyway.

I do feel like some storylines were mashed together in an attempt to close up some loose ends, particularly in the case of his brother who makes scarce appearances throughout the series....it felt like the author just thought of getting him in the book properly and came up with a barely believable storyline in order to do that.

As much as I wasn't a fan of the last book, I was excited by the cliff hanger and got onto this book quickly. I feel that that storyline just ended with no real excitement and just fizzled out into the other storyline to include his brother.

I did give it 3 stars...it was slightly better than a good few of the books in the series but lazily mashed together storylines and a non definitive ending has made me take away 2 stars.
slow-paced

Excellent end to the series! Your heart will be pounding.

All I have to say is yikes that was bad

A disappointing ending to Dexter, especially since the quality of the last book.

Dexter is most certainly dead... I think. It might be interesting to see a spin-off series with Astor and Cody, but at this point in time, it does appear that Dexter is done for.

I had to read this last Dexter book simply so I could compare the book series ending to the TV series ending. I must say, Dexter seems to have gone soft and lost control. It was interesting to pick up the last Dexter book (having only read the first 2 or 3) after watching the entire TV series and seeing familiar names still alive. Brian, for one.

I'd say the most interesting characters were Brian and the high-priced lawyer. There was a LOT of internal dialogue from Dexter, a LOT. And a lot of talk about food. So much so that I found myself skimming quite a bit to get to the good parts. Sadly, the good parts were far and few between.

Dexter is known for his cunning planning. However, in this book there is really only one scene where he sets up things and they go off without a hitch... however, that is all he does. He sets it up with some phone calls and then sits back and watches it unfold (for the most part). When one person is kept for questioning, there is very little given to the reader. Some description of tools that Brian has in his lair, and some description of his lair, and some innuendo about what was to come, but it stops short of giving the reader any real details, and it is that way throughout the book.

While Dexter did kind of go out with a bang, the book was little more than a sizzle.

PERFECT ending to the series! I wasn't fond of the book before this one (Dexter's Final Cut) but am quite pleased with this one.

I've enjoyed the series overall, but it was definitely time for the end. Suspense long ago gave way to me yelling at the obvious plot like a crazy person. Still, a fun ride, and entertaining.

Finically finished with this series. This book wasn’t any better than the rest- and the ending was so poorly written. So glad to finally be done with all of these books.
Such a shame - they had so much potential but never lived up to it.
