This book... Giving it 3.5 stars because. ugh... It was just a little disappointing.

The premise of Greek Mythology and paranormalcy-- it was all very interesting and it had so much promise... But it was all shot to hell when Keaton decided to write up some characters who just didn't make an understandable decision- EVER. and when she wrote up dialogue that was bland and had some form of four letter word in it.

Basically, dramatic and seriously intense fights went like this:

"I... hate... you"
..."You are nothing you little petty shit!"
"Go fuck yourself!"

Ah yess... Sounds very intimidating -___-

All in all, there were some redeeming qualities like some mundane shockers-- but I have to say that this book isn't much. Literary wise- with the disappointing premise and flat characters, and physical wise- as I pushed and read it in one sitting; getting it over with.

RECENZJA Z 2015

Niedopracowana fabuła i niespójność.

Atena- irytująca, marna parodia bogini mądrości i strategii, córki Zeusa. To chyba najbardziej nieudana postać wszech czasów.

Ach, no tak.

This is yet another book that I came across for the Debut Author Challenge, and I thought it sounded so good. Then I began hearing such good things about it, that I was desperate to read it. So I used by birthday money to buy myself a copy, and I am so glad I did. The characters and the story of this book felt so fresh and original. It is a fantastic read.
Ari was a character that I loved. She was really tough and unafraid to go after what she wanted. I heard some comments about Ari’s swearing, but I really did not find it out of character or excessive. The group of friends that Ari finds in New 2 are also a nice, eclectic mix. I loved Crank, and I really felt for her. Her story was really tragic, sad. My favorite though was Violet. I was completely drawn to her from the beginning. She was such a blend of cuteness, loyalty, and toughness. I do not know how anyone could not like her. Sebastian was swoon-worthy. I did have a little trouble with the relationship between him and Ari. It felt somewhat rushed, almost forced at first. I did enjoy them together, however, and I think in future books it could be really a great pairing.
The storyline for this book was so unique. The idea of New 2 and the mixing of various mythologies was really interesting. I loved Ari’s journey to understand her curse, and she was forced to make so many difficult decisions because of it. The blend of Greek mythology with vampires and witches is not a common combination, but it really seemed to work out here. I loved, loved this story.
This book surprised me. I was expecting more of a romance, and this did have one. It just was not the heart-stopping kind that is typical of the genre. The story and characters, however, completely blew me away. Plus the cliffhanger that ended the book make me desperate for the next installment.
Overall, this is a book that is totally worth reading it. I really loved it and I cannot wait for the next one. I highly recommend this series. Also just to note this is the author’s debut, which makes it all the more impressive. I have high expectations for her future work.

I wasn't sure about how Kelly Keaton combined paranormal and mythological elements in this book. It seemed a bit odd to me. I think I need to read the next book to have more time to process it. I did love how different the idea was from other books within the paranormal genre.
I enjoyed learning about Ari's backstory. It made the pieces of the story fit together well.I think that Ari is a great character and I hope to see her grow and develop even more as the books progress. I loved how she had a hard time believing that certain creatures existed even though she realized that she was different from everyone else while she was growing up. It made her seem more human to be so skeptical and it helped the story to progress more naturally. As a reader, I was able to learn about the world through her eyes in a believable way without the flow suffering.

This book is highly unusual. And you know why? For once, I have no problem with the writing, or the plot. It' s just that, well, the cover, blurb and title are basically crap. List no.1.
#1. The title.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BOOK.
#2. The cover.
Basically gave away the whole darn plot. (This is the UK cover, btw)
#3. The blurb.
This is actually the worst blurb i've ever had the displeasure to read. List no.2. (It's a list within a list! It's like listception!)
#1. It is extremely innacurate, for example '...a note from her mother with the single word 'RUN' on it." So what, she gets a note going,
Yo, Ari!
RUN
Love, mom (because we is american, man)
The note has a lot more than just a single word on it.
#2. 'But why is every creature she encounters...afraid of her?'
Problem. Most of them have no idea what she is, either. And they ain't afraid.
#3. Why, why, WHY do these publishers think it's cool to sum up MOST OF THE BOOK on the back cover? Why? It's not. I, for one want to be intruigued, not bored while reading, going: "Yeah, they covered this on the blurb, when does the story start?"

I have to say, most of the reviews I've seen of this book start off saying how bad they thought this book was going to be. (I'm doing it last. I'm such a hipster.) This is entirely the fault of the publishers, for doing such a crap job on the dust jacket.
