I really enjoyed this roller-coaster ride with Bobby and I felt like the climax of the story was pretty awesome... until the whole bit with Karael was revealed. I felt like that extra bit wasn't really necessary and it could have been possible to have Caz brought back without, yet again, being used as some kind of bargaining token (besides, isn't she a pretty powerful demon? Why can she seem to do NOTHING?). I was pleased with Bobby's trial when Karael was the one who seemed to be acting on the side of being just but it turns out that he was just covering his own ass after all. So far, this universe has shown all of the higher angels to be assholes; besides the ones whose names you can't remember because they just don't do anything or show up often enough, it really seems like all of them are asses and not really being very angelic at all. Or maybe that was the point. But still, it made the ending feel a little dragged out and exhausting, since after everything Bobby went through, there was still MORE angelic rebellion to deal with?! It just never ends.

I also feel that the ending didn't give enough credit to Sam; it showed Bobby grieving but never quite seriously enough besides his usual talk of drinking himself unconscious. The death of Sam could have worked to give the story and the character of Bobby more depth if the book would just allow itself a single (longer than one sentence) serious moment without kicking it to the curb with sarcasm, thus destroying the dramatic aspect of the good bits that could have been deeply moving.

I did quite enjoy this adventure with Bobby over all, though. It was fast-paced and definitely action-packed, and I do like all the moments that point out to the reader that the Highest could mean something different since there are Goddesses involved in this and even Bobby has said, "I'm not the Christian type of angel."

This is the last book in the Bobby Dollar Trilogy. IF there are more books coming out, then I think I will skip them. This has a good enough ending for me.

The story (and trilogy) were alright, but nothing amazing for me. This book wraps up the main plot, and introduces some more characters (that i never really got invested in) and a few more bad guys.

All in all, glad i read the series, but would not rush to read them again.

What a blast!

Sleeping Late on Judgement Day is one of the books you just can’t put down, no matter how tired or how late in the evening it might be. Someone wants something from you at work? Screw them. I’m reading important stuff here!

To me all three Bobby Dollar Books have been exceptional. I had way too much fun reading them and I’m hoping that we’ll see Bobby around some time in the future again.

At this point, however, Sleeping Late on Judgement Day is the “final” volume of the three Bobby-Dollar-Books.

It focuses on the aftermath of Bobby’s short and not-so-fun-vacation in hell (Happy Hour in Hell is the second volume which you should really read before SLoJD. And if you haven’t read the first book Dirty Streets of Heaven, start there. I mean, we were already expecting that things would get worse for Bobby… still, I wasn’t expecting this kind of worse. But read it yourselves… I don’t want to spoil any of the juicy details here :)

The book in itself is a just great. I especially like how it welcomes the reader. You easily get the feeling that Bobby is sitting across from you and telling you, as his trusted friend, about all his woes. Just get some beverages. You’ll need them.

And then you’re reading and like me, you’ll be unable to put the book down, because the story just takes you with it. The third volume felt very fast paced, giving you hardly the time to catch your breath. But it’s a good pace, because sometimes speeding just feels right, doesn’t it?
However, Sleeping Late on Judgement Day doesn’t offer answers to all questions raised throughout the series. In fact it raises quite a few more, which leaves me hoping we’ll hear more of Bobby soon.

A minor point of critique for me was that, while I quickly connected with a lot of characters, the old damsel in distress theme feels a bit over the top in the third book. I understand that you’re pretty screwed once some hell royalty adopts you as his property, but still…
In the end the book is over far too soon and leaves you wanting more Bobby. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this will happen!

P.S. Oh, and in case you’re wondering. I’m on “Team Clarence” (*cough* Harrison… sorry)! There! T-Shirts are already being printed…

Fresh out like a bat from hell and still being held hostage by forces great, Bobby Dollar stumbles through most of the book making things worse and hopelessly outmatched. It is in a sad way quite hilarious and well done. Tad Williams captures most of the spirit of the first book while getting steadily a bit depressing while upping the stakes significantly. The payoff is quite good though a bit unsatisfactory as a lot of issues arent quite resolved. A trilogy that finishes well but not completely, setting up the same for more books in the future.
