Whoa, this book really puts things into perspective. I definitely recommend reading it if you are in the mood for something philosophical and mind blowing. It's is definitely a book I am going to remember for a long time.

I felt like I was crawling through the book and could hardly read more than 5 pages at a time. Just not my type of book!

Frankly, I don’t like philosophy books disguised as fiction. In a dialog, where the author controls both sides of an argument, the winner is predetermined and the discussion is rigged. In this case, the book presents a fake discussion that lead to praise of anarcho-primitivism. (Quinn referred to his philosophy as "new tribalism") this is embedded in a small sci-fi story, cause one of the dialog partners is a telepathic Gorilla. As story goes, it’s okay. As philosophical discourse it is shallow and naive. A short brief read, though.

The world is going to hell. It seems that civilized society's are consuming resources and killing competitors in an attempt to obtain the unobtainable: complete conquest of nature and all life on earth. But there is an answer and it's right under our nose. This book, through a series of dialogs, teaches the narrator how we got ourselves in this unenviable position and how to avoid a ungraceful end to civilization. What else? Oh yeah, the teacher is a gorilla.

I read this shortly after Donald Trump's (who is referenced in the book) second inauguration. And we're still trying to pedal our flapping winged bicycle over the edge of the cliff. It's hard to feel inspired when the air is whipping against my face at this velocity.

I've read this book a few times. I'm thinking about reading it again to see if I like it as much now as I did in college.

If this were a nonfiction book, I would have probably stopped reading it. I don't need another book to make me feel guilty or worried about the current state of the world.

But this book? It gave me a new perspective on things and reframed things in a way that kept me interested & wanting to learn more. It was written 15 years ago but the message is so timely.

"And what happens if you take the Leaver premise, that man belongs to the world?"
"Then creation goes on forever."
