OMG... I had to wade through 18 chapters until Toby was back. Er, at least the Luidaeg finally appeared. So painful and agonizingly slow. I get it, we were in the upside down/alternate world. Ugh... was it worth it? Uhh, no. October as an obedient changeling servant was a real stretch to believe. This was a difficult story to get through. All of it was recapping the previous stories and the ridiculous extent of the illusion. Le sigh. The next book is published next month. Hopefully, it will be a story that actually moves this series forward. Will Toby ever experience peace and contentment?

October has been pulled into another reality. It was really intriguing to hear her story from others as they explained the "true" past to her - her own life story. The why's and wherefore's as she (again) decides how she would choose her life to be. Sometimes, easier isn't better. It's what I've always enjoyed about this series - doing what you can - even when it seems that all hope is lost.
p 19. "find people who will tell you he truths you cannot carry and unveil the lies you cannot see."
p 44. "Courage isn't knowing everything will be fine. It's knowing everything might not be, and doing what needs to be done anyway, because someone has to."
p 63. "The humans live expecting death, understanding that it already knows their names and waits to claim them when the time arrives."
p 201. "She was a sobbing stranger in a monster's private playground, and no one could have blamed me if I'd turned and run away.
No one but me, and since I'd go with myself anywhere I went, I was the person I couldn't afford to upset that badly."

I was so glad to get out of AU Toby's head and into real Toby's head.
Perfect as per usual!
I love Toby, obvs she's my favorite. It was really cool to see some of the more minor characters be fleshed out and actively involved in adventure. Another excellent read by Seanan!
