Not Relationship Goals

After reading the first book in this series, I had little interest in a book about Carter and Vivienne. I didn’t find either of their characters to be particularly interesting or likable. Diving into their story revealed that their both saddled with baggage from strained relationships with their parents. That dysfunction made them seem perfect for each other. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a warm and fuzzy match. I’m generally turned off by stories that romanticize a woman fixing/healing a damaged man. On a brighter note, I enjoyed catching up with the other residents of Mahogany Heights.

I liked it more than the first book in this series. Viv is such a brave, fearless queen, putting herself out there time after time. I'm glad Carter stopped being a dummy 😃. Loved it.

I think its safe to say I'm obsessed with Christina C Jones and her books. I can always count on her to give me exactly what I'm looking for.

Black Love, Black Excellence, Character Development, Exposition, Fun, Pain, Conflict, Romance, Authenticity, Swag, Slayage, EVERYTHING.

I enjoyed reading about Vivienne and Carter, their struggles, insecurities, baggage, dysfunction and eventually love. I was completely engrossed in their story from beginning to end which is probably why it only took me a few hours to finish it. As always Christina presents her characters and stories in a way where you can't help but be invested in their lives. I loved seeing Vivienne and Carter struggle and overcome thier very different but parallel insecurities.

LOVED IT!

I loved the switch of having Carter not be the one who's ready for a relationsjip because it required Viv to choose herself for a while. With her being just a lover girl, it was hard, but Carter, even scareed, came around int he end. Loved how even when he fully know what he was getting into, he and Viv had a genuine freindship.

Super cute

I loved so much of Viv and Carter's story. The love, the hurt, the laughs. It was a wonderful book.

.5 star read

Viv and Carter, just make it official already. I was rolling my eyes (in the best way possible). I like CCJ's writing style and I am getting the hang of her dialogue as well. This is the second book in the series, and after reading the first, I am happy that the book focused on Carter specifically. Unlike the last book, this one shines a more desireable light on Carter. His intentions were a little unclear in the last book, so I am happy to see that he is both charming and romantic in this one.
