More like 3.5 stars. This volume is a really interesting set-up to hopefully equally interesting future issues that I'll definitely continue to read. The biggest problem with it and the reason that I wouldn't consider it a solid 4 stars is that it is basically entirely set-up. The volume is so short that you don't really get past that and into much of an actual story. Still, what is given here is definitely intriguing.

A great introduction into a complex future. Its a pleasure to be able to read another book from Rucka and Lark together, its been too long since Gotham Central!

This was only my fourth graphic novel I have read ever, but when I saw the word dystopian how could I refuse?

I am really glad that I grabbed this.

I needed something new and fresh and this did the trick to get me out of a slump I was in. I thought the graphic world was vivid and realistic. I was sucked in by all the characters and kept picturing this as a movie in my head. I felt tension, greed, lust, and aggressive pour out of the graphics in his novel. I couldn't stop turning the pages and I even sucked in my breath a few times. I don't claim to be a comic expert at all--but I am finding that I appreciate the graphic novels very much when I find ones I like. I get so absorbed with the combination of past paced story and art that it is the perfect day read when I need something different in my reading palette.

If you are into graphic novels I highly recommend this one! It will leave you on the edge of your seat and begging for more!

*I received a copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

3.5 but I can see that as I read on and learn more about how the world works, it could get really good.

A dystopian future vision, where the world is divided between a few families, that all have some serfs and the rest of the world population is considered waste.

A lazarus is a sort of clone/ robot hybrid that takes care of the dirty work for the families.

In this first trade we see that in the Carlyse family, some members are plotting to take over the power. And Forever, the Carlyse lazarus grows some doubts as a result of that.

Nice story, nice art work (looks a bit european) and a promising beginning of this series. I can't wait to read the next trade tomorrow.

Just the sort of story I love - dark, mysterious and with a narrative that gradually reveals richness.

Impressive. Spends little time explaining. Just drops you into the world and expects the story to tell you what you need it to. And it does. Most of the characters are clearly awful people, which may not make the series as enjoyable over time. But that was agreat issue 1. Even the combat was pretty good. Fast read.
