Quick, gritty, painfully honest, and glamorously unaspirational. I listened to this book because I wanted to hear the words from Anthony Bourdain himself. Highly recommend. He is the type of person I would want advice from because there is no bullshit. It’s hard to explain how he makes you want to be in his orbit because he is so worldly, confident, and authentic. But he also makes you want to run far from the industry because of how grueling, demoralizing, and exhausting it can be. The way he speaks of his mentors, friends, and respected counterparts is admirable. I feel like I know Big Foot, Adam, Scott, Steven, etc. from his storytelling. I learned a lot from this book and plan to read all of his other books. He is truly missed by the world.

Well written and self depricating. Arrogant to start and eating crow by the end. I loved his TV show growing up and loved him even more as the narrator of his own conscience - recognising his own skills and also his own ignorance in the same breath; something we can all aspire for. There were lots of cool cooking tips I hadn't considered would be in the book, and some things I've already taken to incorporating into my own kitchen. I love a good biography and this is one of the true - must read classics.
