Okay idk why it took me a month to read this book, I have been pretty busy HOWEVER, this was such a beautiful story. I mean I am a n.1 fan of Anthony Bourdain! This book made me wanna be a chef. I totally recommend as a fun like read, it’s diff complex but has lots of funny stories in it.

If you've ever wondered what it's like to work in a restaurant, this will tell you. Shows like Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen only scratch the sruface. It's a super book.

I couldn’t bring myself to listen to the audiobook because it would have been simply too sad.
I read his articles decades ago and watched his television shows but never got around to actually reading this book.
I love Bourdain’s writing style more than some of the content (we get it, kitchens are full of crass, high, sleep-deprived people just churning out delicious food). I genuinely appreciate his complete honesty and that he doesn’t shy away from who is is/was…there’s no need to criticize him because he already knows his imperfections and he’ll tell you to your face.
I do think he held back about 10% of what he really felt or maybe he let more of himself out on his tv shows years later when he was even more comfortable with himself.
Anyway, this is an expertly crafted, witty, self-effacing read. Highly recommend.

I really liked a big portion of this book, and simultaneously couldn't have cared less about the rest. I went into this book expecting that, and that's exactly what I got.
I'll be honest, I care very little for most biographies. There are a few in which I have enjoyed, but they are typically outliers. For the most part, I don't care for famous people convincing me that they're just like us. This is my flaw and I acknowledge that.
Anyway, this book specifically. I couldn't have cared less about Bourdains stories in the kitchen, and getting to know p people from his career. That said, learning about his path was interesting, I think he just got a bit too deep on the people in his life. I'm sure they loved the acknowledgement, but I don't care.
The great parts of this book were getting to see behind the double swinging door and hearing about the nitty gritty of the restaurant industry. Learning about better days to eat out, or what you're really getting when you make an order was very insightful. As well, it was great to get true insight on what you really need to "up your culinary game". Not that I cook a lot anyway, but seeing that the ability to up my ability is so easily attainable is actually a little motivating.
Also, having listened to this, which was narrated by Bourdain himself, it was nice to him speaking his words. I think there is an inflection that could have been lost and meant less otherwise. I'm also not sure I would've actually made it through the book entirely if I was reading it. The advantage of the occasional audiobook.
Will worth the 9 hours hours to listen to this one
