Sad and dark just not really my style of poetry and a lot of them feel repetitive in content

1.5 stars. There were probably 3 poems that I enjoyed, but most of them read like edgier Gabbie Hanna poems. It has been 10 years, can we please let the Instapoetry trend die?

I wanted to give Fox’s book a chance, but I really hated it. I like anything that makes art more accessible but I couldn’t help but feel that this book falls under that new category of bastardizing poetry: the “instagram-ification”. I think there were maybe two salvageable poems in the entire book which makes me feel like Fox has poet potential but was just cranking out content to make a book. The language was also very cringe; it felt like she was trying way too hard to sound young and be relatable.

It’s heartbreaking how relatable this collection of poems is for so many women… so many feelings while reading

PLEASE READ AUTHORS NOTE FOR TRIGGER WARNINGS

this was a tough read. it was emotional and raw and sad and I hope you have never felt even an ounce of the torment Megan displays here but as women I feel like that’s impossible. Even if you’ve never been in a toxic relationship, there are general themes of a woman’s ‘place’ in society.
