This book took a while to get started. The characterisation of many of the women was slightly irritating; constantly describing Salander as 'anorexically skinny', each woman being described as either beautiful or not, etc. But these seem to be involunatry internal biases of the authour that are a sign of the times he lived during. You can clearly tell from the story that he is a feminist and wrote it with the best intent. Beyond page 300 the plot is compelling and extraordinarily disturbing. I didn't find the Wennerstrom affair side of the story very interesting. On the other hand the commentary on the mistreatment and abuse of eccentic individuals by laws which 'work on average but not on individuals', and those that exploit them, was very interesting. The writing style was simple and easy to digest. Overall a good summer read.

I would almost give this 4.5. I can't believe these books were published after his death. I can't wait to read the next one. Love the characters.

I found this book really hard to get into, but I'm so glad I persisted with it! After the first hundred pages or so, I really started to want to find out what happened next. By the end I was hooked and didn't want it to finish. Despite the slow start, I really think it's one of the best books I've read in a long time. Would definitely recommend it!

This book took a little bit to get into. When the characters are being introduced in the beginning, it is a little tedious to keep them all straight. Once you get past that, the book is great. There are some parts in the book that are graphic, but are key in telling the story. This book sets up the whole series, and if you pick up the second book afterwards, you will have a hard time putting it down.
