3.5 ⭐️: I was overly hyped up about this book after watching some review videos, to the point where I think I ruined it for myself - I went into this thinking it would be similar to Still Beating & that I would connect with this story & the characters like I do so many of Jennifer Hartmanns books (haven’t read any of Chelley’s yet) & this was just so different.
This is a ME problem for sure - the story was unique & the book really was great - but nothing like Still Beating aside from the captivity (& really that should be a good thing, because why would she want to write a book exactly like one she already published)?
The first thing that bothered me - Everly didn’t seem distraught in the way I thought someone would be who was being held captive & their eggs being stolen from them (that was HUGE. Like, EXCUSE ME??) & then it was never spoken about in part 2.
& Issac was the BIGGEST jerk, until he wasn’t at the very end of the book - the way he treated her after what she had been through & everything THEY had been through made me so upset!! It felt like part 2 was a completely different book than part 1.
But then the end was so beautiful - her reconnecting with Allison & her & Issacs sweet little life - it was like a switch flipped & we got the cute fluffy stuff.
Again, I really feel this is a me thing & not an author or book thing - because at the end of the day, I couldn’t put the book down. I just wanted to connect with the book more. Still recommend to anyone who likes suspenseful, dark, heartbreaking, spicy romance books!

Wow. I absolutely devoured this book. I couldn't put it down. I read it in one long sitting as this book is over 500 pages. I looked like a trash panda the next day, but it was well worth it.
This book is a romantic suspense and done really, really well with 2 authors driving the story. The suspense, the heartbreak, the longing, everything was so amped up. I was holding my breath, on the edge of my seat, and dying for the characters to break through the wall that separated them.
This book is heavy and at times terrifying dealing with abductions and a sadistic serial killer. Check trigger warnings before reading.
100% recommend

Would have liked more of the couple’s story once they finally found their HEA. Also hoping the author will write additional books based off of the side characters.

ok, it's good. really good.
an intriguing story. predictable, but in the way most stories like this are. it didn't detract from it at all.
the banter was nice. honestly, could have used more of Isaac's aggression, in more ways than one. that was something.
asking if she's ready for it, totally serious, was just, *chef's kiss*
the 2125 bits were really cool

Issues:
1. The timekeeper: His character often felt like a Disney villain to me. He would monologue to Isaac, telling him things I wouldn’t think a captor would normally reveal to a captive, and I found myself reminded of some of the cartoon villains I remember watching as a kid. If he had been more elusive and mysterious, I think I would have liked his character and the role he played more.
2. Everly: The more the story went on, the more I disliked her. She had a second chance to choose Isaac, instead of Jasper, and she chose to get in the car with the husband that she divorced and got with her bestie while she was missing? Hmmm okay. Actions speak louder than words, and her actions toward Isaac told me she wasn’t really that into him. She smelled bleach in Jasper’s car and wasn’t suspicious? Jasper shows up after the Timekeeper and she still thinks Jasper isn’t involved? I wanted to shake her.
3. Everly’s family gaslighting her into forgiving them for their betrayal: Every time Everly talked to someone from her past after the big reveal of betrayal in the hospital, they would try and make her see their side. There was no apology, no acknowledgement of how they hurt her. Especially her mom. What good mom sides with her daughter’s best friend by getting with her husband while her daughter is missing? 😅 Not a mom I’d wish on anyone I know…
4. The spice: The scene between the wall with Isaac and Everly made me cringe 4 times. I wasn’t into that and almost skipped the chapter. And I love spice! But I didn’t love whatever that was 🙃.
5. The pacing: Some parts felt too long, and other parts felt too short. I don’t have specific examples, but I do feel like the romance didn’t get nearly enough time while other scenes did.
Do I recommend this book? Maybe. Some of my issues could be relayed to personal preference, and you may not take issue with what I did. Give it a try!
