Wicked Appetite

I've never read an Evanovitch book before. Actually, I listened to most of the book on CD and then had to return it. Luckily my library had the book in hard copy and I finished the last few pages. I think listening to the book made me enjoy the book more. I really liked the reader's voice and how it somehow fit every character. I don't think I would have had the patience to finish this book if I was just reading. There seem to be a lot of extraneous moments outside of searching for the stones and a lot of listing. So much listing of items! That was driving me crazy. But it was entertaining fluff, especially to listen to. This doesn't make me want to pick up another one of her books, though.

Janet Evanovich has a very simple, direct way of writing. She uses it to great effect for humor, but that's all I can say for this book. Wicked Appetite started out funny, but even that wore down and by the end it really wasn't all that funny anymore. The romance is spectacularly bad, the villain is just an edgy sideshow, and the plot is eh. Needless to say, I will not be continuing this series.

"Hi, my name's Stephanie Plum Somebody Else and I'm just like Stephanie Plum except I bake cupcakes and have a Magical Talent instead of being a bounty hunter. You don't know who Stephanie Plum is? You should buy one of her books! There are heaps! She's not a supermodel but she's sexy, she doesn't have an intimidating set of qualifications but she's still smart and sassy and she has two dangerous, mysterious hunks who fancy her! So she's just like me - except I only have one mysterious, dangerous hunk who fancies me but he can't shag me or we'd lose our Magical Talents. The other one is a bad guy who doesn't fancy me - except I'm not sure really which one is the bad guy - maybe both are! Anyway, I fancy the "good" guy but I can't shag him 'cos we'd lose our Magical Talents! Did I already say that?

"Anyway, just like Stephanie Plum, I have preposterous adventures, only mine are even more preposterous because they involve Magic! Soon I'll have heaps of books too because Evanovitch writes them at about one a week, which is easy for her, because apparently they are all the same! Anyway, I have to go now - feeling frustrated 'cos of this Magical Artifact that makes me horny but I can't shag this great guy I met because then we'd lose our Magical Talents! I already said that? Sorry!"

Complete waste of time and probably the most boring "magic system" I've ever come across. I recommend running away screaming if you are presented with this book.

Enjoyable book with lots of fun moments. Was a little anticlimactic, but did leave me wanting to read more to see what happens next. Love having Diesel back!

Something I picked up for fun, and I wasn't exactly a fan. It was enjoyable at times, but not my type of book.

I love novels by Janet Evanovich. So far I have read The Stephanie Plum series and now this book.
All these books are light, fun reads.I usually have a good laugh at the characters' antics.I liked the little mentions of the Trenton Characters.
I am looking forward to the next books in this series.
All i can say is that it was a good book but Diesel is no Ranger/Morelli and I missed grand ma, Lula, Stephanie , the whole Trenton crowd.

Just finished Wicked Appetite, which was a fun read. Evanovich is clearly comfortable with her brand of slapstick paranormal romance. It's a romp of a book, meant to be finished fairly quickly. What prevented it from being thoroughly enjoyable was the lack of dimension of the characters. I wanted Lizzy--main character--to be more than a spectator in the story. She doesn't believe her fate as an Unmentionable so she spends much of the novel picking fights with the guy (Diesel) sent to protect her for no reason other than to be difficult. Diesel takes it into his head early on that he's going to be attracted to Lizzy and spends most of the novel flirting with her without any success. And the bad guy, Wulf, isn't very bad. He's actually kind of tame.
I'm hoping that Evanovich's series gets better as it goes on. The premise is fun--seven deadly sins being collected for ultimate power--but if the characters don't become more than caricatures of her Stephanie Plum characters, I don't see the point in reading more than this book.
