Reel Love by Julie A. Richman

Standalone Contemporary Romance
4.5 Stars

I love books where the movie star falls for the regular girl, and I love books that tie into the book world. Reel Love by Julie A. Richman was a perfect blend of both. Its unique storyline is so timely and relevant, and Julie’s beautiful and unique descriptions kept me fully engaged throughout the story.

Francesca ‘Frankie’ Simonelli is a Texas girl who wrote a book that is on everyone’s lips. “Fleeing an August Moon” is a romance that crosses the Mexican border and it is being made into a movie. The book was so popular that Frankie was given the final say on casting, which is almost unheard of in the industry. This Texas girl is swimming with the sharks in Hollywood—hopefully, she won’t get eaten (well…..

Finn & Frankie will grab your heart!
I totally enjoyed this story and the lifestyle of living in the Hollywood World.
This book had tons of feelings and wonderful characters that I throughly enjoyed.
A friends to lovers story that gives a really all around dose of two people who progress in finding themselves as well as each other when trying to achieve their goals of success.
Pick up this book to start off your Summer reading list right.

I have only read one other book from Julie A. Richman and I loved it so I just had to read Reel Love when I was offered the chance to review it.

This book is all about Finn and Frankie, Frankie is an author, her latest book went through the roof in sales, everyone has read it and so it seemed like a no brainer to say yes when offered to have the book into a movie. She had conditions though, she wanted to do the casting for the characters.

Finn walks in to do his audition and Frankie just can’t take her eyes off him, he is everything she had envisioned her male character to be. It’s in the bag for Finn, or is it?

There are others vying for the role, including a proper celebrity in the form of Maverick Dailey, who would be the producers choice as it will make the movie huge.

I really liked this storyline, an author writing about an author sounds kind of weird but let’s face it, the author knows how she is thinking as she is in the same vocation. The chemistry between Finn and Frankie was sizzling, you could see the sparks flying but then, they both have motives for flirting, Frankie wants her lead to be just as she pictured in her mind, Finn wants the role. It seems like a battle of the hearts for them both.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book, it was well written and fast paced and kept me entertained.

Reel Love is Julie A. Richman's newest fun, flirty, unique love story. I've been a fan of Julie's since her first book and she was the first author I stalked on facebook! I still stalk her and I won't even apologize for it! Her writing is top notch and her stories are always unique with characters we fall in love with. Francesca wrote a book and it became a best seller and now it's going to be made into a movie. As the author she gets the final say in casting and when she sees Finn Parker it's like he jumped out of her head and into the audition. He's exactly how she wrote him. And it's messing with her head. Especially when she keeps running into him all over town and actually gets to know him. It's hard to separate her character from the real man. Finn wants this job. No, he needs it. Getting the lead in Fleeing and August Moon would change his life. He didn't expect to like the author so much. Frankie is the realest woman he's met in years. She eats actual food and indulges in dessert and can't stand avocado toast! She's a breath a fresh air and that's just what Finn's life needed and he didn't even know it. But he doesn't even know where to draw the line. He wants this role, but he wants Frankie. Can he have both? Will Frankie be able to separate the fact from the fiction and choose the best man for her Griffin? I loved this story! I felt for Frankie because I have a few book boyfriends and if I ran into someone who looked just like them I would freak out! But she's a professional and she's determined to do what's best for her film adaptation of her book. I loved watching Finn remember his real self. He's three men in one and he's been hiding for far too long. Frankie didn't even realize she helped him decide he needed to make some changes inside himself. Reading the book and preparing for the role showed him that he wanted to be more like her character, Griffin. Get his soul back. Become who he was before he became Finn Parker. Frankie and Finn have undeniable chemistry, but so many obstacles in their way. In a place like Hollywood, how can you tell what's real? Who's real? How can you trust your heart when your head sees so many different things? Frankie and Finn's love story just made me happy! The have flirty banter, sexy chemistry and a deeper connection than either of them even thought they would find. Overall, I loved every word and didn't want it to end. This is why Julie is one of my favorite authors. She's in a class all by herself!

“But the reality is, I’m sitting here half-naked with you eating post-coital cookies.”
She laughs and repeats, “Post-coital,” clearly amused.
“So, maybe we should just refer to them from here on out as fucking cookies. As in, I brought you your favorite fucking cookies.”

“Mmm, that is good. Gotta love a man who can act, cook, decorate, and is damn good in bed.”

"I say if you don’t kiss me right here and now, I’m going to die.”
“That’s my girl.”

DNFd at 40 percent, not because it was terrible, but because it was dull. I just couldn't bring myself to care, and that's when I start picking at minor inconsistencies that I would forgive in a book with more action, depth or suspense. So here is a petty, petty list:

1) Both the main characters can't jog without their headphones in.
2) Frankie goes out running, carrying her credit card and health insurance card, but not her phone. 3) First of all, what was she listening to music on? secondly, who is paranoid enough to take their health insurance card, but goes out without her phone?
3) Frankie is described as an "A lister". She is an author with one best selling book. That is not a hollywood a lister.
4) The whole "oh how unusual, the author has all the say on casting" got old fast.
5) Finn takes his ex to the Golden Globes, and later says he is glad she is out of his life. But she's not, you took her to a major event.

There was no glamour, no suspense, no anything really. Mainly, there was no tension between any of the possible love interests, so I had nothing to care about.

I enjoyed this title. I liked the relationship of the characters...and, I know, it sounds odd to say this about a book entirely about the relationship of characters, so let me explain.

Romances are, always, about the romance that develops, but they sometimes forget to show that the characters really like and enjoy one another...and, that came through clearly in the story. And, I enjoyed this aspect of it. You have certain expectations in a romance, and this one hit the points (some more cleanly than others) you expect from a romance.

I enjoyed this title overall and I recommend it.
