It is hard to tell what to think about this one as compared to the other ones. Is this the only book that actually tells the truth? And how much of the other books were written by Rose rather than by Laura? Certainly this book is a lot rougher - which makes sense - since it was an unpolished manuscript. It definitely made the frontier farming life look quite uninviting. But it did have some of the detailed description of that life, that made some of the other books interesting.
This book is very different from the other novels.
Perhaps because it was published from a found manuscript of Laura’s after her death and was an incomplete work.
It reads much more like a set of notes than her other vividly detailed and heartfelt stories.
Still a great look though into the struggles she and Almanzo faced in the early years of their marriage.

This shouldn't be considered part of the series. Ending with the beginning of Laura's married life was the perfect place to stop and publishers should've kept it that way. But I still enjoyed reading about their newlywed life, as awful as it was.

These books are extremely nostalgic for me as this was the series that got me into reading at 5/6 years old. I remember them book vividly, and they were just as good as I remember. The illustrations were lovely and the story was compelling to read, even as an adult. That being said, there are parts of this series that contained child abuse and racism, among other problematic things. I think it should be noted by the publisher that these books contains such content and that in leaving it, it is meant to be learned from, not celebrated. This was the story of her life and her truth, and if she had sugar coated the disgusting behavior of the "settlers" of that time, it would be doing a disservice to the pain Native Americans endured during that time. Regardless, it was interesting to read this series again with fresh (and adult) eyes.

Definitely not my favorite Little House book. I know it was discovered after her death so I shouldn't be too harsh. It was disheartening going from the charm of the first books to reading about all the debt and disaster accumulated by Almanzo in great hopes of succeeding as a farmer. I reckon it was a fair account since farm life back in that day was not sunshine and roses through the eyes of an adult like it would be a child.
Finally finished the Little House series!
I do really like these books and it was enjoyable to read about the beginning of Laura's life with Manly.
The struggles and hardships they face on the prairie make me grateful for my pretty easy life.

This final book in the Little House series has always been my least favorite, but I felt like I needed to go ahead and read it again, so that my re-read was not left incomplete.
Now that I have finished all nine of the Little House books, I'm very glad that I took the time to revisit Laura's world. Her books are extremely special to me, as I remember them being the first books that caused me to truly fall in love with reading, when I was a mere toddler. (Thank you for that, Mama :) )
