One of my favorite books of the year! Kind of like if love island met lord of the flies. Wouldn't be surprised if they turned this into a movie or black mirror episode it's so good.

Overall - 2/5. okay so this book pulled me in because I LOVE dystopian novels. I was super intrigued by the plot summary and had heard pretty good things about it and decided to add it on for BOTM this month. I read it in two days flat - due to it really pulling me in. I feel like the beginning, middle and honestly most of the end were pretty solid. I HATE HATE HATE the way it ended - Although I’m trying to avoid spoiler warnings…
I always hate crapping on books, especially when they are the debut of the author, but I just don’t know if I would even recommend it. I feel like I wasted a lot of time to not really know what I read or really how I even feel about the conclusion. Overall, I hate rating it as low as I did, but I just hate the ending so much. I feel like it can’t get above what I’ve scored it due to the ending alone even though most of it was SO binge-able.

- The premise and first 70 percent of the book were great but it got weird.
- It was very hard to understand characters’ choices and continue to like them at all.
I read this book as part of a buddy read with some other book lovers. It was unique in that despite it being a very slow burn, I could not stop reading it. There are a lot of instances of challenges which keep the story moving. However, I wouldn’t necessarily say I connected with any of the characters as they are pretty much all, with few exceptions, unlikeable. It is a good commentary on consumerism and our need for approval, and that is one of the reasons I rated it higher. Besides that, if you are looking for answers to this book, you will not find them at the end. If you are ok with ambiguous endings or those types of books that just set you in a situation for a while, then this one is for you.
