“No matter how the darkness grows, you are never alone.”

I enjoyed this book a lot, it had a lot of fun things going for it, and was pure EU. Of course it had to tie into the sequels which drags it down, but that can't be helped. It's one of the better canon books.

I wished we had more of Nathand Miramir, Reys parents. I feel like there was more story to tell there, but of course they had to die by the end. They were interesting, but underdeveloped.

Luke was great, as always. But it just bothers me knowing where he'll end up later on. Lando had a nice arc as well, being so strung up on finding Reys family because of his own guilt on not being able to save his daughter Kadara.

Also, this book made the Errant Venture canon again, so I really hope we see our favorite red Star Destroyer in a future book.

It was aight.
The plot just moved all the characters to their correct positions and ended very abruptly in a "this has to happen cause that's what happens in the movies" way.

But atleast it does accomplish the thing I assume the book wanted to do, which was to fill in plot holes and to expand the sequel trilogy.

Still no idea how Luke knew Rey was a Palpatine tho

I really had high hopes for this novel, mainly because I've never read a Star Wars book during the sequel era. I was super excited to see Luke and Lando back together on their own mission, and it was such a delight to catch a glimpse of Ben as a padawan ("Uncle Luke?"). BUT the show-stopper for me was experiencing Rey's and her parents' journey through this book. Te parts where I was most engaged in this story was when we are following Rey's parents throughout their wild and turbulent goose chase through the galaxy. I especially loved the familial bond between the three, and seeing the relationship between Dathan and Miriam. Unfortunately, the story itself falls flat for me.
If you watched the movies, you would know that there really isn't an "ending" to any of the plots explored in this story. And because of that, the story felt like a long and winding road that leads to a dead end.
The only thing that really kept me reading was seeing the characters that we all know and love, plus two more characters (Dathan and Miriam) figure out their ways throughout this book.
