I have mixed feelings but overall the book works and it's fun/interesting.

But I do have issues. One being we do know how this ends for everyone involved so what we need is intriguing in between parts. That's where I found things lacking. The characters went places and did things. But there wasn't any big moments that had me hooked. Luke and Lando could have had some really cool conversations, but it was all just normal.

Didn't like how Anakin talked. Found it painfully weird that they were looking for two little girls and kinda all gave up on it? That the parents left Rey the way they did was so weird? No mention of L3 was kinda weird? Hate the cape thing forever. Hate how Luke is operating his school.

Oh one hand they have to include the movie things and in places it does make the movies better but in other's the movies make this book have to do weird things that have me rolling my eyes.

It was a fine story, I like how they brought back the sith artifacts that they had back when TFA was coming out. And there was nothing seriously wrong with the story, just a little dull.

This was a pretty good Star Wars novel? It was interesting and cool to hear the sith and the dark side discussed in such an esoteric and mysterious way, but the other half the book was still doing all the heavy lifting to make The Rise of Skywalker resonate and make sense. Worth a read for Star Wars fans

i want to know what happens SO bad but i don't care to finish reading😭😭 and switching to the audiobook surprisingly did not helpā˜¹ļø.....EDIT: it is so embarassing dnf-ing this book TWICE! in one year but i just can't finish it i wld watch this as a movie/show without a doubt but i cannot for the life of me focus enough to finish it. also the line in the beginning abt detachment and distance being required for the "pure focus" or whatever that jedi need and luke strives for makes my blood boil whenever i remember it exists. like. all that?? from luke "i am a jedi like my father before me" skywalker????? brufhibvjokb

This review will contain some minor spoilers, but if you’ve seen all the Star Wars movies, it’s not something you don’t already know.

So, I’ll go ahead and get the negative out of the way. I would’ve given this book a 4, but the writing felt dry at times, mainly with sections that were unnecessary and seemed to drag on, but this didn’t take away from the overall feeling of the book too much.

The story was amazing though. It was nice to have the bridge between the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy and find out how Rey ended up on Jakku. There was some lore added to the overall universe that was nice. Since this book deals with Luke at the time he was trying to retrain Jedi, of course Ben makes an appearance which was a bit jarring.

This boom is what the 7th through 9th movie should have been. Original, detailed and well thought out instead of the carbon copy of the original three. An enjoyable book that gives the reader a glimpse into Lando Calrissian & why he responds so strongly to Rey

Taking place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, the reader gets the background on Rey and her parents, the Sith planet Exegol, and what Luke has been doing since the fall of the Empire 17 years earlier. I liked the Jedi Master Luke more than the depressing hermit Luke from The Last Jedi. Lando and Luke make an interesting pair, they work together better than I expected, since usually Calrissian is teamed up with Han Solo and Chewbacca.
