This was cute, but I didn't love it as much as I thought I would. The writing was good but the story a bit cheesy in parts - and yes I know I invite the cheese factor when I read kids books, but so many do well without it! I would love to talk about it with kids and see what they think.

Reminded me a lot of Labyrinth. :)

Colin Meloy's excellent world building is front and center in this book. It was a delightful read, and a real page turner. I've already picked up the next two books in the series and can't wait to read them!

Man it took me months to finish this book.
The story is lovely. I love love love the cover and the illustration.
Its just this is a really hard children book to read at least for me. The vocabulary of this book is so wide that sometimes confuse me. But I quite enjoy the story.

I had wanted to love this, because I love the Decemberists, I love Colin Meloy's baroque storytelling, but sadly I just didn't. It was okay. It had all the ingredients, but just didn't play out in a satisfying way-- that mysterious unnameable thing.

I didn’t read any reviews of this before I read it, and wow, folks disagree! It’s long but never felt cumbersome to me. It’s dark for middle grade but certainly no worse than something like Amari. I didn’t love the ending, but it’s the first of a trilogy, so final judgement suspended.

It was giving very much Chrosincles of Narnia: The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. Took me absolutely forever to get through it because I wasn't too held by it, but it was a lovely story!

So this was so boring and I got 129 pages in and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t connecting to anything and I couldn’t tell you why I should care about any of the Impassible Wilderness shit
