So this was so boring and I got 129 pages in and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t connecting to anything and I couldn’t tell you why I should care about any of the Impassible Wilderness shit
Bardzo przyjemna opowieść, a im dalej tym lepiej. Dużo barwnych postaci z charakterkiem. Moim faworytem jest waleczny królik w rondelku ❤

Cute, fun, quick, and pretty illustrations gets this to 3 stars. Far too many adjectives and adverbs (not every "she said" needs to he modified with "pressingly" or "softly"). I thought the extreme hipster crunchiness was a joke at first but it was very much not.
This is not a bad book.
It is an ambitious story that wants to be so many things.
It wants to be Narnia.
It wants to be Rapunzel.
It wants to be Lord of the Rings.
It's not any of these things, but not for lack of trying.
It needed more editing, more focus, more reason for being.
If you can make it through the frequent slow parts, this is a good story, with very effective illustrations. I just wish it was better.

Gave up after the first chapter. If you want MapQuest directions of Portland and commonly used slurs for the Roma people here's your book.
I really, really enjoyed Wildwood.
It's an amazing children's adventure, but I really think any adult can get a lot from it even if you're not a huge fan of middle-grade. I loved all the characters, there was an incredibly diverse cast all with distinct personalities and the main characters go through a lot of growth.
A lot happens in this book, which is quite big for a middle grade, but it all ties back in together nicely in the end.
The only thing that knocked one star of for me was that some of the dialogue was quite long and slow, especially towards the end where the situation called for quick decision making the characters seemed happy to discuss un-important subjects for a while. This frustrated me quite a bit.
I am excited to pick up the next book in this series!

OK, yes...you have to suspend belief at some of the actions in this book. Especially when it comes to Prue's parents. I mean really...let your 12 year old pull the baby around in a wagon tied to the back of her bike? Just kind of shrug and say 'oh well' when your daughter tells you that said baby has been kidnapped by birds?
But in some way that curious detachment of any adult figures made this book work as pure, childish fantasy. Prue is a child trying to figure out how to act like a grown-up. This story is the world as seen through Prue's eyes (and later Curtis'). I really enjoyed this for what it was, a solid, well-written middle grade novel with a well constructed 'world'.

This is a children's book. Prue is shocked when a HUGE murder of crows flies off with her baby brother in to the Impassable Woods. No-one goes there! Not even developers. However, she rushes in with her classmate, Curtis, following her. There she comes upon a different world separated into different factions where animals speak and live and work among the humans. However, there is war brewing and many of the 4 sections of the wood are fighting. Which one is responsible for taking her brother? What does the kidnapper want with her baby brother? A story with a lot of twists and turns as the kids learn who or who is not to be trusted. It is an engaging read.
