I'm loving the Hebert siblings more and more with each book in the series, and I love that [a:Daphne Elliot|21191191|Daphne Elliot|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1614071449p2/21191191.jpg] has given us another pregnancy trope with an interesting twist with Chloe & Gus. These two have one of the best stories by this author and I really enjoyed reading them, even though their journey has some sad moments, this book is so worth it!

Gus is the perfect man! and my favorite Hebert with Finn. Although I have to say that I didn't expect to love him so much, the personal development that Daphne gave to her character is my favorite in all that I have read from this author so far: Gus is a grumpy man, isolated from life by his own decision due to his actions in the past and his father's betrayal towards the family business that he loved so much, his personal history with the patriarch of the family makes me very angry and sad for him, especially the moments when Gus recognizes that he was manipulated, I love that Gus is a different man, that he learned from his mistakes and that he's not willing to let Chloe walk away from him once again. But what I LOVED MOST about him was that he chose to heal his emotions, feelings and heart before persuading Chloe to give him a second chance, Gus is the man we all deserve!

Chloe is a lovely character, and it bothers me to think that there might be people who read her and don't love her because of her actions, even though this character's decisions are completely justified. Chloe is a strong, successful, very intelligent and a bit Machiavellian woman, something that I loved about her, and I really like that she always knows what she wants and fights to get it, although it hurt me to read her with a broken heart, believing that she will no longer be able to have everything she wants in life, and struggling to trust Gus's true feelings. Another thing that made me very happy about this character was that Chloe had JJ & Karl by her side, supporting her and loving her unconditionally.

Gus & Chloe have a great history together: from their marriage 20 years ago, to Chloe's plan for revenge to help her heal her heart. Their past is full of anguish, broken hearts, and a lot of confusion that they both unravel throughout the story, but despite the resentment and bitterness between them, the bond and attraction between them is always present and I loved that Gus took the initiative and the right path to win back Chloe's trust and love. I also loved reading about their ENTIRE journey together because I think Daphne gave us a love between two mature people, who grow together, one beautiful and sweet love.

DID NOT FINISH: 45%

This book is adorable, love both of the characters but there's a lot wrong with it.
1. Chole mentioning every other page how his "manly" smell is getting to her, how every part of her is sticking up because of a man she claims to HATE from pg 1 (like I'd think you wouldn't react that way)
2. It's just way too slow paced and way too long for what it strives to be a steamy romance with a pregnancy twist. Like this book could be shorter if they just sat down and had a 3 hour convo about everything that happened between them, authors shouldn't be afraid to have a short book, as long as the content is good.
I didn't feel like waiting this whole book for them to get together, despite that I like both main characters. I just don't have the patience.

I liked this but it felt like the part where they’re together isn’t long enough, I ended up frustrated more and disappointed

After 20 years Chloe is back in Maine and is the new owner of her ex husband, Gus’s family business, the one he gave her up for. She is a take charge, don’t mess with me, boss babe and she is there with things to prove to her family and her ex. Gus, realizes quickly that things have to be different to keep her around. A new wardrobe, therapy, if it helps him convince her that they are meant to be he will do it. When sparks start flying, the clothes do too. This is a cute feel good story, where both main characters have issues they need to work through, separately and together. There are side characters who have their own stories, but this can be read as a stand alone with no problem

Loved elements of their story and of the way they related to each other - I found it repetitive and the FMC’s change of heart was slow and then all at once but there wasn’t enough shown of how that altered their dynamic (she also kept telling the reader how she wanted to trust more and love more and then would go backwards so much!). It’s worth reading if you like the tropes and it’s a bit of emotionally complex fun.
