One Summer in Santorini by Sandy Barker

Page 39: did I somehow skip where her age was mentioned?
Also the writing is kind of dry, it’s as if I described how many steps it took me from my room to the bathroom and back. Things I wish she would elaborate on, eg the surroundings I mean hello Santorini???, are completely glossed over. Kinda like: wow it’s summer, white and blue buildings, hot dudes.

Page 42: also Sarah is kind of a bitch

Page 51: omfg I’m DNFing this… the writing style is so bad. Take a shot every time Sarah guess miraculously right where everybody was from just by hearing three words, that Josh‘s voice was described as sexy and how sexist and rude Sarah is

Sarah has had enough of men. It’s time to rekindle her first true love – travel – so she books a sailing trip around the Greek islands with a group of strangers.

The very last thing Sarah wants is to meet someone new… But then a gorgeous American man boards her yacht and she knows she’s in trouble. And when she also encounters a handsome silver fox who promises her the world, she realises that trouble really does come in twos.

Will Sarah dive into a holiday fling, embark on a relationship, or stick to her plan – steer clear of men, continue her love affair with feta, and find her own way after all?

This was a quick, fun summer read! I got everything I expected and needed from this book.

Ugh. This reads like YA and then I keep remembering the main character is 36 and her love interest is 28. Then it commits the cardinal sin of not really ending.

In an attempt to rebuild her life following the breakup of her relationship, Aussie Sarah embarks on a ten day sailing holiday around the Greek islands. Intent on a summer of sun, fun and cocktails - and with no thoughts of romance - her eye is caught by fellow holidaymaker Josh and handsome art dealer James. With both vying for her attention, will Sarah break the promise she made to herself and engage in a little summer loving?

I am not a romance fan. Usually I steer clear, preferring to read something a little bit more heavy going. However, since reading The Hideaway by Sheila O’Flanagan I’ve yearned to find something similar, and One Summer in Santorini was it. Sandy’s writing style had me hooked from the beginning, and she has a knack for recreating that lazy summer holiday atmosphere. I’ve since purchased the follow up to this novel, That Night in Paris, and am looking forward to reading it. A definite five star recommendation from me.

One Summer in Santorini is a quick and light summer read. What annoyed me a bit was the love triangle-situation and the lack of resolution in relation of the guy situation. Also, not much was happening in the book, neither plot-wise or character development-wise.

Okay my two biggest bucket list trips are to Italy and Greece so I always love reading stories set in either country.

This story of Sarah going on a dream trip after a horrible break up, declaring she will be single forever when she bumps into the American boy, Josh, who ends up on the same sailing boat she is booked on.

This story is laugh out loud funny at many parts which I really loved but it also makes you stop and appreciate simple things in life like a good tomato, a beautiful sunrise or the happiness new friends can bring to your life.

The book just flowed from one page to the next! A perfect summer read and the details of the Greek islands make your mouth water for a fabulous trip in the Mediterranean!

This book has been on my TBR list since it was first released, and after a rather challenging week, I decided it was time to retreat into romance. Sandy Barker's One Summer in Santorini was the balm my soul needed - an escape to the Greek Isles as told to me by a character who sounded a lot like one of my friends telling me about a recent holiday, with some unexpected romance!

In this gorgeous read, Barker strikes a lightning rod into the wild variation of thought that many women have as they rejoin the world after a relationship breakup. From insecurity to bubbly self-confidence to 'What.Was.I.Thinking!', it's all captured in the central character's voice that I just adored.

Add in the stunning setting of sailing around the Greek Islands, "Hello boat-sun-water-FOOD-potential romance", and this is an ideal escape. If you want to do a little armchair traveling and indulge in some romance, One Summer in Santorini delivers everything you could want.
