This book has been on my TBR list since it was first released, and after a rather challenging week, I decided it was time to retreat into romance. Sandy Barker's One Summer in Santorini was the balm my soul needed - an escape to the Greek Isles as told to me by a character who sounded a lot like one of my friends telling me about a recent holiday, with some unexpected romance!

In this gorgeous read, Barker strikes a lightning rod into the wild variation of thought that many women have as they rejoin the world after a relationship breakup. From insecurity to bubbly self-confidence to 'What.Was.I.Thinking!', it's all captured in the central character's voice that I just adored.

Add in the stunning setting of sailing around the Greek Islands, "Hello boat-sun-water-FOOD-potential romance", and this is an ideal escape. If you want to do a little armchair traveling and indulge in some romance, One Summer in Santorini delivers everything you could want.

After getting out of a bad relationship, Sarah decides to renew her love of travel and go on a cruise on a private yacht around the Greek Islands. Sarah has no plans to meet any new guys, but ends up meeting two while she's on the trip. One is sailing on the yacht with her and another she meets before she even boards the yacht and then runs into her on another island.

I wasn't ready for the book to end, I wanted a little more of a resolution with the guy situation. Hopefully there'll be another book with Sarah in it and we can see what has transpired since she left Greece.

Having just travelled to Greece myself I could appreciate some of the things the author said in the book even more, but having travelled to Greece is definitely not a requirement to read this book (but it might make you want to take a trip.)

One Summer in Santorini follows Sarah, a somewhat newly single, mid-30’s woman from Australia as she embarks on a ten day sailing trip through Greece with a group of seven strangers. Inspiring by the author’s own life, the strangers on the boat quickly become friends, and then family, and one man in particular becomes a bit more. This book is the definition of a simple and effortless beach read. A picturesque Greece backdrop, boating, and plenty of shared food and drinks with friends and lovers fill the novel. It was an easy read, perfect for a summer day while relaxing. I requested to read this book because going to Greece would be a dream vacation, and of course reading it made me want to go even more. It’s a cute book and I’d recommend if you just want something light and fun to read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I really wanted to like this book. I thought the story line was a great idea and was excited to read it, but I just don’t think it was executed very well. I felt bored by about 50% of the book, and actually did put it down for about a week before I picked it up to finish it again. I felt that there was a lot of unnecessary detail that didn’t add anything to the story or lead anywhere. I am a fan of books ith lots of dialogue, and I felt that there was a lot less dialogue that didn’t feel super meaningful. Overall, this book wasn’t for me, but that doesn't mean it wasn't for everyone. I was rating it between a 2-3 stars.

THIS BOOK IS THE BEST BEACH READ EVER.

The first part of this book was amazing. The parts in Santorini were everything to me, because it’s my dream to visit the island someday and reading this book felt like I could taste the atmosphere already. I was reading this on the beach in Cyprus, and it was the best. I would definitely recommend reading this book when you’re on vacation and at the beach or at the pool.

Unfortunately I didn’t liked the second part of the book, where Josh and James got introduced. Maybe it’s because I’m younger (20) and that Sarah is in her thirties that I didn’t liked the age gap between Sarah and Josh and Sarah and James. I just don’t feel attached to older man (like James, who was in his 50s). But I thought Josh on the other hand; was very adorable. But also I didn’t really liked the age gab. I also thought that Sarah started to get quite annoying when the two men came into the story.

If you’re looking for a quick, Greek, cute vibe in a book, I would definitely recommend this book. If you don’t like age gaps, don’t, bc it kinda annoyed me, but that’s just personal.

Thank you to Netgalley and @avonbooks for the advanced copy of this book, I’m return for an honest review. I found this book witty and romantic. This is a perfect romcom book and I highly recommend lovers of Sophie Kinsella, Kirsty McManus and Cecelia Ahern check this book out- but be prepared to become engrossed.
