This was a fantastic read. I saw this on a best books of 2021 and knew little about it coming in. Part crime, part coming of age, and a little hockey mixed in, I really enjoyed my time with the story. I loved getting immersed in the indigenous culture imbedded throughout the story and has just increased my interest in a trip to the UP. I did a mix of Audio book and reading and the narrator was fantastic and added to the story.

She dicked around for the first 3/4 of the book and then finally locked in during the home stretch. It just felt like none of this was cohesive, and it felt like a drag despite being called a thriller. There were so many plot lines that were opened up that were never resolved or the consequences hardly had an impact on the overall plot and how characters acted in response.
All that being said, I did learn a lot about Native culture which I did enjoy.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and learning about the authors native roots. The book does a great job of showing the injustices against native women while showing how important community is.

I have mixed feelings about this book! Loved the setting but sometimes the main character’s voice missed the mark. That might be because it’s a YA book and I’m a grownup. :-) Plus there were a couple extra characters and scenes/subplots that were distracting and didn’t add interest or depth to the story. Expect the star rating to move around as I mull this book over.
