I didn't expect to become so attached to the characters. Wrecked to say the least. I need an epilogue. The next book I read is going to be a let down because few will compare to this one.

I enjoyed the book. This thriller was interesting because of the cultural aspect. The culture, community and the traditions weren't side characters or references, they were primary and I found that the most compelling part of the book. The book took me on rollercoaster of emotions but most of those were outside of the drama around the crime . Even if the ending was somewhat predictable and the the romance felt like insta love and a little age gappy, I enjoyed everything in between.

what a stunning debut! i went into it pretty much blind and it was a lot darker and more violent than i had expected, but all the themes were handled beautifully. daunis was a brilliant narrator and the mystery was perfectly layered and engaging, albeit a little predictable. i did find some of the dialogue a bit corny at times, but that may be because i don’t read much YA these days. overall though, it is such an important read which feels like a vivid and real depiction of this native community, allowing the reader to learn about their culture, language and traditions, as well as the issues they face.
