Phew, I really enjoyed this book. It was better than the first one. It did have similarities to other books but I still thought it was enjoyable. I am looking forward to later this year for the third installment!

Now this was disappointing. I hate rating books below 3 stars, but there was not much I liked about this one. Especially disappointing considering that I loved the first book. But this one....lagged the fun and fast paced parts of book one, and on top of that it had this unnecessary love triangle. There was no love triangle in book one, and both Britta and Cohen told each other that they love each other, so why, why was this love triangle needed? Just to add some drama? No thanks. And it was so cringy at parts, I just wanted it to be over. The King fell in love with Britta after she saved his life, and then tries to win her over despite knowing she has strong feeling for Cohen, and we get chapters of the King being saddened by the fact that Britta isn't wearing the dress the gifted her for the ball?? Okay, it's not like he had more important things to worry about. A great deal of the King's chapters is just him swooning over Britta and getting Sad when she doesn't seem to return his feelings.....*sigh* the second half of the book is a little bit more interesting, but I can't get over the cringy scene where Britta and Aeordan had to sleep *naked* next to each other because of the cold, and because Aeordan had to fall into icy water in the middle of winter, with no town being close for a night. Why was that necessary?? There were interesting parts about the magic system, but it seemed like the all over plot point of this book was the love triangle, just too keep Britta and Cohen apart till the end, and sigh, I really don't like it.

All these 5 star ratings and yet, this book was so boring.

Nothing happens except love triangle drama that is ridiculous. Also, I hated Cohen in the first book and guess what, he still sucks.

I enjoyed Ever the Brave, but I didn’t think it was as good as the first book.

Cohen in particular drove me mad - he did seem to learn from what he was doing though which is better than nothing. But wah jealousy is not sexy, give yourself a slap Britta! 😂 and the whole love triangle thing with the king was a bit meh. Though I did like that Britt mostly wasn’t into it and knew where she stood. Doubts are natural and I think I’d have liked it more if she’d mostly gone along with it because of how annoying Cohen was being 😂

I didn’t really get Phelia’s motives either - or maybe even Jameson’s. Other than trying to kill the king why do the channeller thing as it seemed he stood against it. Why did Phelia join him in the first place? Grr.

The channeller women and Lirra were awesome though! I loved the concept of the guild and getting to see more of their magic in combat.

The storyline overall was nothing special or different, but it’s definitely still enjoyable overall. I just wanted a bit more.

60 pages from the end I was frantic wondering how this book could possibly wrap up in a satisfying way but our author pulled through with a sweet and happy ending. Very much enjoyed this story.

I don’t even know where to start, between the completely unnecessary love triangle being the entire plot of a book that had the potential to be so much more?

I just feel like this series had a great premise and it just did not deliver in the slightest. Didn’t the king have better things to do than chase after some random girl? Idk, rule a kingdom? Why does Cohen suck so much? Why is the intense political conflict the background of a shitty love triangle?

I might read the third book just to get more Aodren content because I think he’s genuinely the most interesting person in this series
