Ugh, this book is no good. I read it for the sake of being complete, but it is missing the usual whimsical charm of a Jeeves and Wooster book.

Not the same sparkle as the usual Jeeves and Wooster. No Wooster in this book and Jeeves was an accomplice to actual criminal behavior which didn't ring very true to the general innocence of the troubles from which Jeeves pulls Bertie.

I normally like these a lot more than this one. This one was particularly racist. Jeeves seems to be off his form in the brilliant ideas department. The actual narration was good.

With no Bertie to play the point of view character and Lord Rowcester being a much weaker two-dimensional character this is probably the worst of the Jeeves stories in my opinion. Which isn't helped with the change in narrators who though competent enough doesn't have the same delivery as the previous chap.

Not keen, not keen at all

A country-house farce that just happens to be in novel form and have Jeeves in it, at least after the first few slow-moving chapters. Nothing to write home about, but amusing enough.

I hadn't realized how much of the humor in these books relies on Bertie Wooster's first person (and fat-headed) narration until it was removed from the equation. Definitely my least favorite Jeeves tale and I suspect it should have been left as a play rather than adapted into novel form.

2.5 stars. This is not my favorite read. While I was initially excited for a change of pace and a Bertie Wooster-less read, it truly did not pan out. Jeeves was his usual unflappable self, but Bertie was still present, he just had a different name (unfortunately). While the humor is still there in this read, what ultimately tanked the book for my was Rory/Roderick. I could not STAND him-I wasn't sure how I was supposed to digest him, was he truly an idiot, playing at being an idiot, or just a callow asshole?

I can't recommend this book to anybody, not even fans of the series. This one was a BIG disappointment.

3.5 rating. The story ended on an up note for me.

Apparently I read this book several years ago but have not recollection of the plot, characters, setting, anything. Largely forgettable? I'm told that Jeeves is a treasure and that Wodehouse was a comic genius. I'll have to read more to agree or disagree on this statement.

The only Jeeves novel with no Wooster, and it just didn't rise to the standard of Wodehouse. Also, I can't help feeling that if the pair were to be broken up, the novel we should have had was Bertie at competency school for the rich. THAT sounds like comic gold.
