The second installment in this “F the patriarchy” duology continues the story of Carmen and Dani, an unlikely couple who formed when they were both meant to be married to the same man as primera and segunda, in keeping with tradition.
The underclass is rising up, moving against the establishment, but who can everyone trust? Which side is everyone on? Intriguing storytelling with great character development, We Unleash the Merciless Storm is a great second book.

this one was better in my opinion, higher stakes, gayer, and how it sends the message that love is a revolution on its own in those circumstances too? carmen had her own idea of how revolution is and it was so much more inspiring than the usual one.
carmen and dani’s relationship was more intense and powerful both of them stayed independent and learn to accept the “darker” part of the other for carmen and for once they were unapologetic about their love. we stan
also i feel like it talks about immigrants in a way its the same situation? but its not my place to tell dkks and it was cool to see a latino universe it’s not in every book

Enjoyed the sequel (and glad the author decided to write a duology instead of giving in to the tyranny of the trilogy!) - I really liked getting to hear Carmen's voice and found her compelling as a character.
Did not find villain's motivations clear even once explained.

We Unleash the Merciless Storm picks up where We Set the Dark on Fire leaves off, but this time from Carmen’s point of view (which I loved). Dani seemed to be more logic-based whereas Carmen seemed to be more emotion-based. I have a suspicion that a lot of readers will relate to one more than the other, but I really loved getting to hear both perspectives and the ways that they balanced each other out.
I could see each of the main characters fighting to grow and develop into who they really are and what they really care about. I think it’s about the struggle to be open to things that scare us, whether revolution or relationships...and I loved that this book dealt with the fact that it’s not always easy. Sometimes there’s a cost. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it.
Overall, WUTMS was a fast-paced and twisty ride, and a really great way to wrap up this duology!
4.5 stars for me

she fought that urge to f*ck longer than she fought that war
Not as good as the first book, but I love these characters. The ending left something to be desired. I wanted something more conclusive.

Finally, some closure! We Set The Dark On Fire ended in the middle of a catastrophe. The sequel does a great job of wrapping up loose ends and bringing us on another unexpected journey.
This book is written from Carmen's perspective. I wasn't sure how I would feel about that at first, because I loved Dani's perspective, but hearing Carmen's view of the whole situation reveals her innermost thoughts and feelings - bringing balance.
I am a huge fan!
