It took me a little while to get into it. But honestly I loved the relationship. Opposites but perfect. Having recently finished the mercenary and mortician, it was an interesting read. Very different, but with similar underlying themes. This author really knows how to write a beautiful sweet romance
Some dubious lube situations though, which I know can be contentious in this genre

“The most important thing you can do on this Earth is breathe.”
I AM NOT OKAY AFTER READING THIS BUT IT WAS PHENOMENAL!!
The story follows Finn, a surfer bro who’s moved to an LA beach after hearing rumours of some of the biggest waves he’s never even imagined: Leviathans. Young, bright and fearless Finn is determined to ride Leviathans, despite warnings from locals. When he meets Riddick, a mysterious and grouchy surfer, he’s only warned about the dangers of Leviathans again. But Finn’s dimples are his superpower, and he convinces Riddick to train him to be able to best the treacherous waves when the season arrives.
This book is extremely well written. The foreshadowing is incredible, the characters are wonderful, the emotions are so raw, and it’s atmospheric. It goes sooooo much deeper than “a grumpy sunshine surfer romance”. Though I did predict what was going to happen at around 40%, I was still blasting through the book to see if I was right. It’s honestly so well done. I don’t have a single complaint about this book.
Pacing was excellent. The characters were beautiful. The dialogue and writing was gorgeous. It made me so emotional, which doesn’t usually happen for me. The themes were solid. Honestly I’m so impressed with this book. It absolutely deserves the hype that it’s getting.
Possible spoiler (but also a warning):
This book deals with major themes of death and loss.

Chasing Riddick follows Finn, a barely mature chill dude, who feels no fear and chases the adrenaline by surfing, and Riddick, a much older, wiser surfer who pops into Finn’s life at a convenient time. Finn is determined to conquer the largest waves at a beach called Leviathan. Riddick is determined to stop him, or at least train him in hopes those waves do not take another life…
I found Alexandra through The Merc and The Mort and absolutely fell in love with all her books, especially MM, so I jumped at the chance to get this ARC! This blew my expectations out of the water. I wasn’t entirely convinced I would enjoy a story based around surfing, but again she carefully crafted two more amazing characters that I fell in love with, hard. This book took an emotional toll on me. Finn and Riddick’s story will forever live in my heart.

Alexandra St Pierre just never misses.
While I’m used to darker stories from this author having this sweet surfer romance was a nice change of pace.
Finn and Riddick are EVERYTHING. I’m an absolute sucker for Grumpy x Sunshine and this had that in droves. I was not prepared to cry reading this one but knowing Alexandra’s work I should have known it would pack an emotional punch and plot twists that would leave me reeling.
5⭐️ doesn’t feel like enough. I’m going to go cry my eyes out now as I impatiently wait for her next book

I am going to do my best to put into words how incredible this book is. I am not the best with words, but I will try. If I am being honest, I signed up to ARC read this book because it was a MM romance and the cover was pretty. I had never read a book about surfing, nor did I think I would enjoy one. I had zero clue this book would live rent-free in my head going forward.
This was one of the most uniquely beautiful stories I have ever read. It was captivating. I could not put it down. I woke up in the middle of the night and read a few chapters because I couldn’t get it out of my head.
All of the characters held a place. Alexandria established so many beautiful and tragic relationships in such a short time. Finn and Turtle’s friendship was delightful. I loved every scene in which these two were together. The banter between Finn and Riddick was my favorite. Their teasing and jesting made me giggle and kick my feet.
I am always on board with queer awakening book. I love it when characters find something in themselves they never knew existed. The clarity that comes with these types of stories always speaks to me. They always seem to elicit strong emotions in me. This book did not need help in that department, though. It wrecked me. It was bittersweet. I cried while smiling. I cried until I thought I couldn’t cry anymore. If I think about it too hard, I will cry again.
If my words haven’t conveyed how incredible this book is, please read it for yourself. It is worth it. If I could have given it more than five stars, I would have. You can find it on KU. Please tell me if you read it. I would love to talk more about it!
Quotes:
“See, Finn Man? Told you we would have that bonfire to celebrate.”
“You are pretty small. Shark bait would be an appropriate nickname for you.” His eyes twinkled. “If a shark ate you, they would definitely still be hungry after.” I allowed my mouth to drop in mock offense. “Excuse you. I am not small. You’re just ridiculously big.”
“You have no idea, shark bait.” He smirked, and I swear to god, the entire planet stopped spinning for a second.
“I’m trying to protect you, Finn. Can’t you just trust me on that?”
“Protect me from what!?” “From me! I’m not good for you. It doesn’t matter that I want you so badly that you’re all I can think about. Because it’s not about me. It’s about you and what you deserve.”
“And what do you think I deserve, Riddick?”
“Everything… Anything, Finn. You deserve anything you want in the world, and I’m sorry if I made you feel like you don’t.”
“What I want is you.”
He made me feel like I wasn’t alone. My feelings for Riddick were so strong. Too strong. They had the potential to sweep me away and absolutely ruin me… but they also felt so good. He felt so good.
“I love you,” I whispered, kissing him softly. “Show me,” he murmured against my lips.
“I will,” I breathed. “Every fucking day.”
“You’re not alone, sweet boy. I’m right here.”
“Breathe for me, baby. You’re so beautiful when you breathe.”
I was happy. I was loved. I was home.
When Riddick smiled, it felt like everything was right in the world, and I would never be touched by darkness again.
‘You made me feel when I thought I would never feel again. You saw me when I thought no one would ever see me again, and I just… I’m so grateful for you, Finn. You’ve given me something that’s worth looking forward to when, for a long time, all that stood before me were endless, empty days filled with nothing but bad memories and regrets.’
