This book was loaned to me because I expressed interest in it to them when they received it. I think I was expecting something else, or perhaps my judgemental attitude didn't allow me to fully open myself up to this. Certain aspects, such as mindful breathing and expelling the energy you wish to receive into the world is something I can understand. Being present to my loved ones and mindful listening are worthy goals. Original fear (birth), no death, and the idea of all my ancestors being a part of me so I need to conquer their fears and live every moment of my life keeping their ideas and thoughts in mind with every step I take, the idea of an umbilical cord between the sun, me, and the earth...not so much. Luckily, it was a short, quick read but I'm in no hurry to explore more Buddhist philosophy at this time.

Every book I read by Thich Nhat Hanh feels like a meditative practice in itself. I had been meaning to read this book but I picked it up when I was having another very anxiety filled day and struggling with trying to push it away and tamp it down. The exercises offered, especially at the beginning of the book, really speak to the intensity of anxiety and fear, met me where I was at, and helped me to calm myself down in way less time than I even expected.

I will continue to try and practice these teachings and others shared by Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village tradition of monastics. (They have a free app with tons of meditations and a beautiful mindfulness bell! I highly recommend checking it out! The Deep Relaxation options are my current favorite for right before bed.)

I appreciate his wisdom, but there is a lot of repetition across all of his books I've read so far so I didn't feel the need to finish.
