My first Thich Nhat Hanh book - think I might have dived into the deep end with this one but a lot of the first half resonated with me. Original fear and original desire and connecting with our inner child. Will aim to tie some of the mantra/practices in with my renewed attempts at Headspace.

Sometimes it feels like every TNH book is just a remix, and if someone asked which book they should read, I would definitely just recommend one or two and not expect them to read the whole library, I only do so because I have a particular fondness for “Thay” and want to leave no stone of teaching unturned before he dies.

One thing he spoke on that I haven’t heard as much about in other books was how looking into our fear and the fear of others, we can find better ways of resisting war, and find their our “enemies” are motivated by many of the very same things we are motivated by.

This was a life changing book. I might actually buy this one.

Not me, giving another high rated book a bad rating.

Uh, this just felt really empty. Like if you took 5 minutes of contemplation on the question 'is my anxiety going to stop whatever I'm anxious about from happening?' for about five seconds.

Honestly, Tich Nhat Hanh has a much better book about this which echoes much of the same sentiment- peace in every step. Read that one instead!

Inspiring and changed my perception on fear and my relationships with others. I feel much more content with my thoughts and able to help others through my presence.

Calm and intimate for sure, this book is one of the most enlightening and reassuring books I've read. Please do yourself a favor: pick up a copy, read, focus, and practice. You will find yourself feeling so much more at peace after reading this little book.

Recommended this for a friend after reading it myself. She told me it helped her fear death less. Thich Nhat Hanh books are definitely good books to read several times over (I plan to read again them every year or whenever I find that my inner peace isn’t as strong).
