This was actually a 3.5, but obviously Goodreads doesn't allow the half-star ratings, which is frustrating. Anyway...

This is a debut novel written in a way that is absorbing. I picked up the book on Tuesday evening and before I knew it I was 40% of the way in, it was gone midnight and I was absolutely absorbed. I read the rest of it over Wednesday afternoon and there were so many twists and turns that I just couldn’t put it down. This is the sort of book that you need to be in the right frame of mind for. It’s not horror, but it is a story that digs at childhood memories, especially if you grew up on stories of Peter Pan as I did. But I didn’t put it down and find myself left with a horrid taste in my mouth. I would definitely recommend it if you love the sort of book that twists a fairy tale into something else, or looks at it from a different perspective. It’s very well done.

Loved this dark retelling/sequel? of the original Peter Pan story. The way we were following Wendy in 3 different times and also following her daughter. The relationships developed.
I didn't expect the diversity in an "adventure" book like this, however I am so glad it was there. The race diversity, the feminism and the queer themes of homosexuality and aromantic/asexuality were a really nice add.

wendy, darling is an incredibly well written book that brings a childhood desire into a whole new light. i loved peter pan growing up and the idea of neverland, a way to never get old and play forever seemed magical. as i got older, that kind of childhood dream of neverland became its own escape of peace and simplicity but this book turned it on its head.

wendy, darling takes that childhood romanticism of peter pan and the lost boys and adds a sinister, gothic twist. this change in the narrative is not only shocking but incredibly captivating. it feels like a step stone to adulthood nearly as you realise with wendy herself that neverland is not as remarkable as we remember.

i really enjoyed this book and i can’t wait to read hooked next!
