Do yourself a favor and don’t read this book until the series is published. I made a newbie move and didn’t check to make sure the following books were out on Amazon. I went by the date showing on goodreads. I read book one and it’s a cliffhanger. The next 2 books were scheduled to publish over a year ago. As of time of this post, the last social media update about book 2 was a year ago this month. Completely my fault for not checking before reading book one.

Idk about this one. I like a dark romance but there are certain things that don’t sit well with me.

I know that one scene was needed to make us hate the antagonist but it was hard to digest.

Honestly, Avery is one annoying character. She comes off so spoiled and a try hard.

Still gonna continue the series cause I need to know they ended up kidnapped and who did it.

This book is very dark which is right up my sick alley. It also has so many small twists that it forces you to pay attention to each page. At this stage though being just one book it’s really just a tease. Finally I do like the authors writing style so it was one of those books that managed to keep my attention all the way through. Hopefully book two gets released so we can find out what happens to Avery and Rome.

I don’t know how people kept reading this book. These characters were annoying and predicable from that start. I think I read two or three chapters before deciding to call it quits since we all know how it’s going to end. It’s a shame really that people model books off of two shellfish teenagers that knew each other for a couple days and call it true love. Go ahead and read this if you don’t care about anything I have already said and want another predictable book. If you are looking for something original and all about destiny and true love, I can tell you for sure that this is not the book for you.

"Love isn’t always a happy thing. Sometimes it’s a dirty habit, a vice that makes you miserable with need. A desperate addiction that threatens to kill you in every moment that you spend apart. There’s no happiness in love when you know it has an expiration date. Only an anxious, gnawing grief of a future you both already know, a day when you’ll be forced apart. Avery and I knew our time was finite. Our story’s ending was hurtling toward us at the speed of light. We just thought we had more time."

Let me preface my review by saying this is the first book by Lili St Germain that I have read. I had this book on my Kindle for awhile, downloaded it because the cover & title caught my eye. So I went in with zero expectations. I haven't been reading too much the past year with everything going on, so I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this book. And wished I had the money to buy the next book because I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!

Note: Trigger Warning. It's dark, bloody,  and brutal.

If you like Romeo & Juliet-esque romance, & dark, mafia style romance then I def recommend these books (yes it's a series. No I haven't read book 2 yet- but it's best to have book 2 at the ready! Don't be like me

Vicious Prince is a loosely based on Romeo and Juliet in that there are the two houses of Montague and Capulet, however the main characters in this case are Rome and Avery. While there are obvious ties to the original story this novel by Lili St Germain is definitely a different tale. It is a dark contemporary suspense thriller that combines mafia families with a brutal abduction.

Lili St Germain is a gifted writer that draws in the reader and keeps them there through a enthralling dynamic plot and engaging character. This book was dynamite but also distressing at times so please read with caution.

Vicious Prince is best read with out spoilers and I would recommend it for readers who like their romance extra dark, suspense, thriller, mafia and contemporary retelling of Shakespearian tales.

BRAVO

This book kept my attention and had me thrilled and on the edge of my seat the entire time. I really did enjoy it and can't wait to read the other 2 books. Thank you for letting me read such a powerful book.

This book didn’t make any sense to me. It’s like the author accidentally copied and pasted half of the book from somewhere else.

What I thought this was going to be: a dark Romeo and Juliet retelling.

What it actually was: explicit kidnapping, torture and rape with no Romeo or Juliet in sight.

The only thing they retained from the original story is their last names. In a way this is a good thing, because the book is terrible, no need to ruin Shakespeare further.

Juliet Avery doesn't read like a 25 year old heroine at all. She's spoiled and bratty, as one would suspect and even, dare I say, likable at the beginning. That quickly changes the longer we're in her head.

But I did feel for her, when it seemed like everything was going wrong with her crazy father who wanted to marry her off to her dead sister's fiancé, she had to break up with her 8 year (violent) boyfriend and deal with learning her eggs have been harvested (oddly enough, not the worst thing that happens in the book).

The point where it really goes wrong is her kidnapping. Is kidnapping meant to be nice? No, of course not. But if this was meant to be a romantic story (as it's marketed) then you can't write it like this. You just can't.

There's no reason why the rape happened, it doesn't add to the plot and it's really explicit. And disgusting. And plain wrong. It's romanticised in a way and I am not here for that shit. Also there's no warning.

Apart from the themes mentioned above, there's also suicide which wasn't handled well. Is that a surprise? At this point, no.

The relationship between Avery and Rome is barely mentioned until they're put in a specific situation together which doesn't match the blurb. And even then it's nothing special, no sparks, nothing.

I'm supposed to feel the hate that Rome is feeling towards her and all I felt was emptiness. Her family ruined his? Sent him to prison for something he didn't do? So what? Who cares? Not me.

I think it says a lot that I'm more interested in Avery's father than either of the main leads. He was written decently at least. And Will wasn't too bad all things considered, I at least strongly disliked him.

We got a random P.O.V. from an FBI agent somewhere in the middle maybe, he also didn't seem experienced and his P.O.V. wasn't needed, especially when we didn't see him before.

This book is a huge disappointment. I expected so much from it. Within the first three chapters I even thought I'd read book two, but now I won't. And I suggest you don't either unless if this is your kind of thing, then by all means, go ahead.
