Almost a more fun read the second time around. Much as I liked it the first time, it was fun to see the little Easter eggs dropped throughout the book now that I know what's coming. Filled with adventure, witty humor, and twists unexpected enough that even though I've read it before, I completely forgot about them.

Really enjoyed this story! Despite being in first person, it still managed to turn out some twists that surprised me. Loved the wry humor throughout the book.

I really liked this book. Eugenides was an entirely engaging narrator and I enjoyed every minute of his petulant, snarky journey with the most ill suited and ill conceived quest crew ever put on paper. The story was short and quick to get through but I never felt like I was being cheated out of something. It felt like a fully realized story despite it not being a bible (fantasy authors: TAKE NOTE!). I have put the second book on hold and I'm looking forward to reading the next adventure.

The thief is one of the few books that I couldn't manage to finish, unfortunately. I've been stuck in the first half of it for a while now and I'm now deciding to just give up.
My main problem with it is Gen. He is always complaining and he is way too immature for his reputation. Honestly, the biggest part of the book was him whining about everything, being hungry, sleepy or angry. The rest of the story was uninteresting, at least up until the point that I've read. Maybe I'll pick it up again later on to see if it gets better.

I read this book because I have heard phenomenal things about this series. I was warned before starting that the first book is one of the weakest in the series but that it was important, and worth it, to read this book before continuing in the series.

Frankly, yeah, this book was hard to get through. It introduces an interesting world and characters and masterfully employs the use of an unreliable narrator (which was a lot of fun and continues to be throughout the series). That said, it is very slow... glacially slow. If I were to go back and read the book now (having read the rest of the series), I suspect would enjoy it much more, but the first time is rough.

It's a short book and picks up near the end, it's just not my favourite. It is absolutely worth reading if only to read the rest of the series!
