The book took a long while to get started, I didn't start enjoying it til about a third of the way through. In the end,

the motives of the miniaturist aren't explained or explored and everything just seems a bit unresolved.

Another historical fiction, this one set in 1620's Amsterdam about the new wife of a merchant and the secrets of their house. 

Great historical detail and richness, characters with depth, well paced, ambiguous mystery, and enough tension throughout. Not necessarily a must read, but certainly an enjoyable one!
