Tender
After experiencing the pain and rage of being cheated on by his husband, Payne moves back home to lick his wounds and put his life back together. He lands in a twin size mattress in his brother's house.....not exactly ideal for the big tattooed 40 year old. So when the idea is shot out that Payne should move in with his brother's best friend... he goes for it. Complications arise when the man he moves in with just so happens to have a massive crush on him (for 20 years), is super adorkable, and may just be what Payne always needed.
This book was very sweet. I think the thing I liked the most about it was how tender and sweet Payne and Beau are with each other. The level of respect, kindness, and consideration for each other is just so swoonie! I loved seeing them interact, and can I just say? The paper cranes? So much yes!!! The downfall that affected this rating was the pacing of the relationship. It didn't quite jive for me and was too fast which kinda crumbled the relationship foundation a bit for me. There were a few holes that I wanted filled, and that's why this wasn't a higher rating. This was still so tender and sweet, and it had its good elements for sure!

100% arbitrary rating. Will continue the series.

Never did I think I’d be so drawn into a series about divorced men, but here I am. Beau and Payne sucked me in and I couldn’t be happier. They were adorable. Beau coloring in Payne’s tattoos was so cute
I usually go for darker romances but i absolutely loved this book! I cannot express how much I loved both MCs. Beau is hilarious and I can relate to him on so many levels. The for scene has me laughing out loud even throughout the day it would randomly pop in my head and make me smile. Payne is so sweet and understanding. He took Beau as he was and even found his quirks adorable. People could only wish for their love. ❤️

The thing about loving someone is you don’t get to do it with conditions attached. I don’t love him, expecting him to return it. I don’t love him, hoping I’ll get over it, or that I can transfer that love to someone else.
I just love him.
3.5 stars. This was great! I didn't actually expect to like this book all that much, but I'm always willing to be pleasantly surprised. While the book didn't blow me away, the romance was really sweet and hot and it had a couple moments and messages that I was really happy to see. It has the typical brother's best friend setup, with the added bonus of older character and decades of pining thrown into the mix. Payne is newly divorced after his husband cheated on him. He moves back to his hometown, befriends a bunch of other divorced guys, and ends up moving in with his little brother's best friend, Beau. Who, unbeknownst to him, has been in love with him for ages.
This is a formula that rarely goes wrong for me; I adore a good pining romance, and a brother's best friend romance. The two men already know each other passingly well, have been in each other's lives for a long time, but of course, now that they're roommates, they start getting to know each other differently. Beau is kind of a homebody, an author who works from home, and has a few habits that he thinks are weird. I loved how Payne just met him where he was at, refused to make fun of him or his quirks, supported him effortlessly. Casual nicknames are my FAVOURITE thing, so the fact that Payne had a nickname for Beau even before he realised he had romantic feelings for him? SO good. There were also a few scenes where Payne helps Beau with his insomnia and anxiety, and I won't spoil how, but it's the cutest fucking thing. Tattoos. There's a little jealousy plotline that ended up being really cute. It helped that we saw that the characters always had a solid background, and when they started hooking up and falling in love, it felt natural and sweet. Also, one of my favourite things ended up being how wealth and resources were talked about? I feel like oftentimes in romance novels, you'll have one character refusing to take 'handouts' or any help from their wealthier love interest. While the character might have good reason for it, it can sometimes be really frustrating to me? And I felt like this book dealt with it and talked about it in a great, sensible way. Another plus of having characters older than the average romance novel protags (40/36).
Listened to the audiobook as read by Nick J. Russo and really enjoyed it, as much as I always enjoy. his narration. This was just missing a little more emotional depth and a little more plot that could have made me rate it even higher, but I'm still very pleased with it, and I'm sure I'll continue the series soon. Very successful as a first read from this author!
I actually liked this book. Beau is a great character. He is devoted to his love for Peyne in a way, that is healthy. I felt the plot was rushed, but in the end it worked for me.

Beau invented the definition of pining.
20+ years????? And even then he's still so determined to never let his feelings become a burden for Payne. Their his own. What a man. What a soldier.
