While I did enjoy this audiobook I had so many thoughts and questions. For the FMC who is highly feared, trained and high ranking, why can she not defend herself, kill Mr.rapist throughout that whole year, or come to conclusions on her own. Why give her all this training if she's not going to use it?

I don't typically mind things being predictable but the fact that she didn't realize she was
fae, or that Sorin was the prince, or that Mr.Rapist had som thing to do with the kids disappearing
was maddening. She is so observant and at the same time, not at all observant.

This book is confusing for me to try to rate. I almost DNF’d in the beginning because I didn’t love the writing style. It felt pretty forced and the dialogue was very stilted and awkward. But the storyline eventually became intriguing enough that I kept going. However, most of the “twists” were very obvious, which made it all the more infuriating that Scarlett acted like her world was falling apart every time she found out a new piece of information. Truthfully, I just found her to be a very annoying, frustrating main character who overreacted to all the info Sorin kept from her. Like I get it, it sucks he didn’t tell you, but like you also actively avoided the conversation so what was he supposed to do?? And then you have to throw it in his face that he “broke” you??? I just hated it and it just happened too many times throughout the book. And the “big reveal” at the end of the book was perhaps the most guessable of all of them, which again, made her reaction especially annoying and the ending kind of anticlimactic. With that being said, it was intriguing enough that I do want to keep going with the series. It feels like a mix of Throne of Glass and From Blood and Ash.

I think I was distracted by the narration because it was so much more dramatic than I would have read it in my head. If I continue the series, I'll have to remember to read it instead of listen, I think. I'm not totally sure I enjoyed it, but I do want to know what happens to the characters, so...

The only thing keeping this from being a five star book is all of the spelling and grammatical errors.
